January 2: Then and Now Photography Challenge

Well, I broke all the rules I set up for myself. I vowed to use ONE kit . To make all that record keeping easier. I guess that just doesn't work for me. And I wanted to do a cool photo with an old "thing" but no luck there. But I printed out the flower photo and put on all my warm clothes and trudged out into the back yard to take the Now photo.
 
@tkradtke One more question. I found three photos for my object that would help tell the story. I'm guessing that I can only use one? Just checking ... again!

Hopefully the photo displayed on the iPad shows up good enough. I wasn't sure if I was going to get cat cooperation for this picture today or not, but caught her on her "perch" -- although it wasn't the best sun angle.

 


I converted my now photo to black and white because there were portions of my mother's dress that were discolored. Plus it keeps the old-timey feel of the subject. This was a timely challenge; I was thinking earlier about my parents' anniversary which is January 3rd. Also, the crocheted doilies are a tribute to my grandmother who was known for her crocheted lacework.
 
It's too bad I didn't still have the Brownie, but I took a lot of photos of it before it was passed to a new owner.

Your page has inspired me to replicate this challenge (when I am a home) with DD's Lovey Baa - I have a few photos of her with it when she was about 1 (and through the years) and I just tucked Lovey away in a drawer for safe keeping (he would be one of the things I'd grab if the house were on fire.) Thanks!
 
I would have never thought about doing something like this. What a nice photography challenge. Journaling says: I like to hold onto special clothing. We bought this hoodie at Disneyland when Emma was really young. I kept it around and at one point our son was able to wear it. Now it is too small for both of them. Even though both my kids can not fit into it anymore, I still have it. It reminds me of Emma’s first trip to Disneyland and how cute she was as a Pirate Princess.

Such a great amount of inspiration here. I put a photo from our wedding in 2012 of kewpie dolls which my MIL saved from her c.1930 bridal shower. The years since 2012 have not been kind to them and they are both losing clothes and falling apart. Nonetheless, they are treasured objects to both of us.
