Downloaded the trial and trying to do my first layout in CC...

How on earth do I use predone shadow styles like Cheryl's? I can't even find what to click to access them

Ok new dumb question for today, how do you shift product from one file to another? If I drop/drag like I did in PSE 15, my cursor turns into a no symbol as soon as I drag/drop it into the template. What is weird is dropping papers and stickers into the same file it worked fine but dropping a word strip it didn't and I don't think I did anything different between inserting each thing.

Easily solved....I wasn't dragging on to the tab properly for it to work
Yay! Glad you have figured it out is far.

Often, I have trouble dragging and dropping if I haven't deselected the layer on the canvas. So, If I was adding text or something, I have to deselect before I can add flowers or word art or whatever.

Right, another dumb question....I am finding that when I'm moving on specific layers, its selected a totally different layer than what I want. Any way to solve that as I'm finding it most annoying especially working with templates

There should be a little check box at the top left where you can check to auto-select layers.

You can also select layers in the layers palette to the right.

@Scrapping with Liz that's the weird thing "Auto Select Layers" is toggled on...that's the first thing I checked. I guess I didn't explain it that well, I select the layer I want but other layers move instead.....I can't tell you the number of times my background paper has moved on this layout!

I hold ctrl (on PC) when I click something to select that layer in CS6, it selects the top most layer where I click though, so if there's a flower on top of 2 paper layers, it would select the flower layer - is that what you mean you want to do?

Maybe my explanations suck! Nope that's not quite what I am trying to do but that explains things a bit none the less, maybe my issue is I need to be at the right layer before bringing things over. It's more just moving stuff around in general, I'll go to move a flower and a background paper shifts instead is what's happening to me and its constant. I never had this problem or at least to this degree in PSE

@littlekiwi when you bring something in, you have to have the layer in your layer panel selected that you want it placed, so it will go above the layer you are on. You can always "lock" the background layer so you don't move it.. it is all the same as PSE, you just may be moving faster in PS CC then you do in PSE which is why the issue. (BTW: It is something that happens to all of us :) )

That makes a lot of sense, thanks @cfile. I must admit I don't take a tonne of notice as to what layers are selected when bringing items in. I just move stuff up and down the layers palette once its in my working document. I probably should "lock" my papers once I've decided on the final versions of them. I was just finding that my papers were suddenly 1/3rd to 1/2 way across or down the page time and time again every time I was moving another element.

I don't usually lock papers only once in a while if I find yup I am having movement problems LOL... It is sort of like my telling the papers that I am putting them in a "time out" LOL

There is a way to link layers so you can move them together if you "clip" something or for example you are using an alpha as individual letters and want to move them all together to a different place.. Just highlight all the layers you want to move together with the link ... now if you click on one of the layers and move it they all will move.

Look at some of my videos on PSCC for quick things like the scatter and it will help too with other things.

This happens to me a lot as well, so you're not alone in this experience. I can't think of a specific point in one of my Watch Cheryl Scrap LIVE videos, but they are in there for sure . . . when I try to grab a text block or a super small element and then it moves the background paper or some other layer. Locking the layer that keeps moving on you is a great tip to ease the frustration of this, or making sure you have the correct layer selected in the layers panel.

Not in PSE or PSCC but I do have an issue sometimes in PSP with moving the wrong layer. For me it is usually because of trying to grab the item on the canvas and getting the wrong item. Using the layer palette to make sure I'm on the right layer helps. Most of the time that I have the problem is when I'm using the move tool instead of the pick tool. Using the pick tool shows the transformation box around the item. The move tool doesn't so it is easier to actually select the wrong item if there are a bunch of them in the area.

I've also started doing what Christa does and drop my items into the layer palette where I want it placed in that hierarchy.

So yeah, it happens to everyone at one time or another!

If I accidentally move the wrong layer then I hit Ctrl + Z to go back and step and eliminate what I just did, so then I can quickly grab the right layer and carry on...make sense?

The shortcut is my best friend :) I use it a lot.

Yes, its mainly with smaller elements I notice it happening more often for sure
