Photo Treatment

Cool. In PSP they are called effects which is essentially a filter but I wasn't sure the PSE or PS called them. I copied her photo and tried it in PSP and got some good results with the Sepia Toning Effect using various percentages of aging. So I think she can get something to work with her layout.
I agree.. I did the same and played with quite a few different things in PSE/PS ... I started with PSP back in the day that and PI (Photo Impact) :) I just remember tubes in PSP... LOL I went on to PS7 so I think that was in 1999 or 2000 when I stopped with PSP. Thanks for your input :)

it’s already black and white (as it was taken that way) so not sure I can turn it sepia unless I’ve missed a way to do it in PSE. Honestly, that was one of my first ideas but couldn’t figure it out

You can add a sepia photo filter to it. I don't know PSE but I know PS can easily do it. Maybe someone has already told you how to do it. I'll read on and see.

ETA I see you have the help you need! Can't wait to see what you do!

@littlekiwi I played with it a bit. I took the scratches off of her sweater and arm and the black fluff on her sweater too.

I was never much into the tubes even back then. But I made awesome signatures for the ZDNet PSP class forums using fonts and various effects. Grabbed all the tutorials I could as well. I can still use tubes in the version I have, I just don't. I'm sure there could be a use for them in scrapbooking if I wanted to figure it out!

In the end I didn't love the photo with the kit even changing it to sepia....I think I found the kit a bit limiting but I'm still thinking on possibly doing a photoless page instead for LBW's monthly blog challenge. I was wanting to use that kit/photo to tell my story of only knowing my mum's side of the family and how I've processed it but it just wasn't flowing...think possibly the kit is a tad too heritage for my style

to me tubes are normal pngs for me now.. I just was happy when I finally gave in to the learning curve for PS and left the other programs behind. :)

I say resize the photo smaller.. put on a white background and use a few small flowers and journal... you don't need to use all the dark papers if you like that word art etc from that kit... re the c&s style MOC challenge I hosted, my baby photo was a b/w and I used a white bg with minimal ellies... just do not limit to one kit you have. You can mix :) I think the photo is sweet. You should use it Jennifer and scrap your page.

@cfile Christa, I think the challenge that Jennifer is referring to is the Designer Challenge for Little Butterfly Wings March Featured product.

Gotcha.. Thanks A-M.. I missed the 2nd challenge Val has for March.

@littlekiwi Jennifer, I only used the Our Legacy kit for my page... I took my photo that was color, changed it to b/w and then added the sepia tone as I explained to you for a softer shade to the stark b/w.. then I used the lighter paper added a same tone flood fill layer underneath it and then on the patterned paper I added a mask and used a gradient on the mask from black to transparent to soften the bg paper

Thanks @cfile I’ll give that a go once I’ve rested more (had a small accident a few hours ago so sitting isn’t the most comfortable - I fell and bruised my tailbone)

oh gosh Jennifer so sorry.. I know how painful that is. It has happened to me a few times. Take it easy & feel better!

I agree they are very much like pngs but with tubes you can populate the canvas with one click. As for PSE/PS, I tried and even took a couple of Jessica Sprague courses on learning to use it. It just doesn't work for me at all. I found my sweet spot with PSP X7 and PSP X8 so I'm sticking with them.

LOL I said the same thing when I first got PS7.. I was almost in tears, and would always revert back to PSP and PI.. finally I basically told myelf no using the others and started doing some tutorials ... Then I really didn't know a lot of different things with brushes and masks and blending etc until I took the best class ever.. Photoshop Artistry which after 5 years I am still going back to :) Hugs and glad you are happy with Paint Shop Pro. I loved it and used it for animation back in 1999 :)

Animation Shop was so much fun to play with! I had some great teachers of PSP in the 1996/1997 that really helped me out. Layers were so easy to understand from their lessons that when I switched to digi scrapping, it was not hard at all. I think the only thing that I wish PSP did differently is shadowing but that isn't enough for me to change!

I just played with making a tube. Easy peasy and now I'm thinking of how I can make my own scatters with it... and I'm not a big fan of scatters, mainly because the ones in kits aren't always what I envision on my page. With a tube I can do what my mind sees :)
