January 15: Painted Edges

For us Artisan Users - Possible way to create this. (*edit - note, I used SBC4, so may be different for other versions)
1. Click on item to be painted
2. Open "Format Photos" and click on "Touch-up"
3. Select "Paint" and choose color. Change brush size and brush pressure".
4. Then, start brushing the edges. Change size and pressure as needed.

For Artisan users: It's very simple to do. You just need to play around with the effect to get the look you want. Thankfully there's that wonderful "undo" feature! (I do believe that's my favorite feature on the whole program. :lol)

Go to the Touchup tab on the Toolbar. From there choose either the Lighten or Darken option. The other options can also be fun as well, but Lighten and Darken are the best place to start. On the right of your screen you'll need to choose the amount, pattern, diameter and opacity that you'd like, then start playing around! I find it's best to start with the Amount set at 1 and use the most diffused/soft pattern (the option to the right). This is also a great way to add extra dimension and shadowing to elements that otherwise aren't there, such as darkening the edge of an element to make it look like it's wrapped or bending around something. It's a fun technique to learn and use.

I use an older version (SBC4) and my lighten and darken do not have pattern, diameter or opacity. Which version are you using?

I have A5. I also have A4 so let me go in there and get the info for you. It'll take a few minutes for the program to open, but I'll be back soon!
 
@meagan43 - Here's what to do. You don't have as many options as in A5, but it will work!

For Artison 4/SBC 4
  1. Go to your Format Photos tab.
  2. Click on the Touchup icon (located in first box on the left side of the ribbon). An image editor will pop up onto your screen.
  3. Choose to Lighten or Darken. From there you have two choices: Brush Size and Brush Pressure. You can also add or change your color using the different options.
Have fun playing around with the different settings to see what you can do. Let me know if you have any other questions!

@tracymonica I will try to find a few more videos that help explain how to load brushes. Ask any questions or clarifications you need and myself or someone else will help.

@Jems @tracymonica I really hope you play with brushes and paint your own edges. Myself and others will try to help you figure this out if you need help.

@KELLIE R GUZMAN @CarolynJoyce77 Yes, me too Kellie & Carolyn...I was a paper scrapper long before I discovered digi. I still have tons of ink and love painting edges on card pieces.

@rchansen We will try to help if you need instructions on how to use a brush to paint the edges.

@Genniejoy yes, you got it to work in Artisan.....that's great! I don't use Artisan so couldn't find any instructions to give the girls for it. Was it hard to do?

@marijke Yes, adding a style/blend mode is fine....as long as I can see the brushwork on your page.

Wow, everyone....what a wonderful thing to wake up to this morning....all these lovely layouts with brush work!!!! Off I go to take a closer look at each one now.
 
Thanks for the challenge and the instructions. I enjoyed learning to ink around the edges of my background as in the past I have purchased such items. It's fun to do your own.
