So.................this is what we do in our house. With 7 kids, it was impossible to fulfill every wish. Plus, we don't want Christmas to become a crazed GIVE ME GIVE ME day.
So, I thought, hmmmmmmmmm I need to do this too:

I Want a blue tooth comfortable headphones.

I Need a hard seat cushion for my back (at church)

I will wear new slippers (red or brown please)

I will read a subscription to Simple Life

Love,
Anne Ofalamo

So what about YOU?

We don't do this list, but we do have a price limit and it is small. It has not been adjusted for inflation in about 20 years, so my kids know to not expect a pile of gifts, plus they are almost all grown up now.

My list:
want - a new car, but since that is not happening, a new wok
need - a new couch, but I doubt anyone is buying that, dishcloths
wear - night gown
read - photography magazine, a few cookbooks

@AnneofAlamo - that will work!!! My current one is starting to flake off, so it is time - and I need that flat bottom for my stove top to work.

I love the "want/need/wear/read" idea and I've tried it in the past...though I don't always stick to 4 things. :( It doesn't help that, in a bid to get my kids to at least stay quiet and in their rooms on Christmas morning, Santa leaves each of them a wrapped gift on their bed. It's always a book. :) We've also tried to do "experiences" instead of things, and the experience is great for the Want category.
Anyway, as for myself...
Want: a vacation without my family
Need: a vacation without my family
Wear: clothes for a vacation?
Read: yesterday I sent DH the Amazon link to Michelle Obama's new book, Becoming. It's half off so I said "I want this for Christmas. It's on sale so buy it today." He wrote back "Message received" ROFL.

I got Becoming too, on Kindle. I haven't started reading it yet because I have a few books going already. Maybe we should add it to the TLP Book Club list!

Here are my quick answers.
Want: my computer to run fast and be rid of the glitches it's currently experiencing
Need: much less debt
Wear: a coat; I haven't gotten a new one since the oversized one I bought when pregnant with my daughter over 15 years ago and I'm kind of getting tired of it (It was awesome when she was a newborn -- she's a November baby -- and I could put the coat around both of us while wearing her in the Maya wrap sling!)
Read: all the books I already have but haven't read yet, including the 3 library books sitting here that I'm about to renew for the 3rd time

I'm reading her book right now. It's the first book I've ever bought for my Kindle. So far, it's a pretty good read.

For some reason, and it took a long time to admit this, I'm not the best reader on my Kindle (which is very odd cuz I'm a great reader lol), so I want this in actual paper format. (I read more slowly on the Kindle, which is frustrating cuz then I never finish my digital library books before they're deleted off my Kindle). But enough about me! YEA for your first Kindle book! It is so nice to have a ton of books at your finger tips.

I love your list, Anne. @AnneofAlamo What a great idea. We don't do much for the 6 grands, either, everything they want is super expensive. I let their parents take care of those. The adults don't exchange at all - I put a stop to that a few years ago. But, just for fun, I'm going to complete your great wish list idea.

My list:
want - one of those little printers that prints out 2x3 pictures
need - I don't really "need" anything
wear - flannel shirts
read - a new Bible (large print)

I like this idea. I’ll have to think of something. Right now I don’t have anything on my list, except for one non-material thing that will take a literal miracle from God to happen. And while I’m a strong believer in miracles and the power of our Almighty God, it won’t happen this year. Maybe next year...

But DH and I have figured out what to give each other for our anniversary (Dec 28): sushi making class at Sur la Table. I’m very excited about that!

Great idea. I'll have to think up something for the list!

This all sounds good in theory. I just don't know that I could ever stick to a list like this. :giggle

We have the same anniversary -- December 28, 1979 for me.

want - to lose 50 pounds but kinda hard to gift that so I guess I will go with a new stove which is not going to happen since the one I want to $1,500
need - to lose 50 pounds but once again probably can't gift so I will go with new underwear
wear - a new coat
read - historical romance books

Yeah, I have a hard time sticking to the list, too lol But I have decided that this year, instead of a bunch of gifts for the grandkids that will get lost among the other bunch of gifts from the rest of their families, I am getting them each a little something and opening a savings account for each one of them. It won't have much at first, but I plan to build on it at gift giving time and it's there if anyone else wants to add to it.
My list...
want - a new rug and side table for my living room
need - couch and chair, but that won't happen lol
wear - slippers for sure!
read - Elevation by Stephen King

Want: A stand to hold my cross stitch hoop
Need: Bras
Wear: Yellow Box flip flops
Read: The Century Trilogy by Ken Follett as well as the final book in his Knightsbridge series

we don’t use this but we have a tiny budget to work with

if I did though

want - a proper holiday (yes I know I’ve done quite a bit of travel for job interviews but I haven’t been on a real holiday in years)
need - nothing jumps out at me right now
wear - new summer casual clothes
read - don’t really buy books etc cause I use the library

That's a fantastic gift! My parents do something similar. On birthdays they give the grandkids a small gift and a check for their college account.

We celebrate Hanukkah, and my family's tradition is a gift every night for 8 nights. It's not as big a deal as it sounds like--many of the gifts are the equivalent of stocking stuffers. For example, one night each of the kids is getting a big chocolate bar. :giggle We always do one bigger gift, one book (or book store gift card, now that they're getting older), and one Amazon gift card to put away until there's something they really want. Other than that, it depends how much of the budget went to the big gifts. This year the 2 younger kids asked for new Fires (tablets), so that used up a lot of their budget. The oldest got his first laptop and first phone this summer (for starting high school), so he knew not to expect any big gifts for Hanukkah.

I won't really get any of this, since adults in our family don't exchange Hanukkah gifts, but my list would be:
Something I want: A digiscrapping gift card or a Shutterfly gc (to print my next photobook)
Something I need: Some free time that comes early enough in the day that I'm not too exhausted to do anything with it
Something to wear: New jeans
Something to read: Continue my Kindle Unlimited or Audible Romance Package monthly subscriptions
