I can hardly remember a time when Mom didn't have a crochet project in her hands. Everywhere we went she always had her bag with her at the ready to work whenever she had a spare moment. She made afghans, blankets, doilies, clothing, toys, dolls, hats, just whatever suited her fancy. Her work was beautiful, and every piece was filled with love. She even had her crochet group from church, a bunch of crazy ladies who would get together twice a month to sit, eat, laugh, gossip, and sometimes actually crochet. I know somewhere I have a photo of she and her friends, all in their matching hats and pins as they worked the polling place at elections. What a group of nuts they were! What amazes me is that with all the time she spent crocheting, this photo is the only one I have of her plying her craft, which Dad took of her when we all were at the Vermont house. I guess we all took it for granted so we never took more. But now time has taken its toll and Mom can't really remember how to crochet anymore. She's lost without it because it was such a part of who she was. What came so naturally is now a struggle, and it pains me to see it because it brought her so much joy to continually be creating. I only pray that the little she can now do will fill that void and give her the contentment that she always had, sitting in her lay-z-boy in front of the TV in the rumpus room, cheering on the Dodgers, all while crocheting up a storm.
I was crying and just needing a hug, and then she is a Dodger fan? What, this precious talented woman? Jan? tee hee, I jest (kinda) I come from a house with a poster that reads, I don't care who wins, as longs as the Dodgers lose! lol.
I know your going thru so much in caring for her, and hope that this time making a page, helps even a small bit.
Thank you for playing along with me! Happy Mother's Day to YOU too!
