Kindergarten Identity Crisis Resolved

I (almost) never scrap photos of myself, but jesskab’s September journaling challenge inspired me to finally do something with my kindergarten school photo…

Journaling reads:

“I was always Mary Catherine at home, but at four years of age, I decided I didn’t like my name. I was tired of hearing comments like, ‘Mary Catherine? Well, that’s a big name for a little girl like you.’ So before I started kindergarten, I asked my mother if I could register as ‘just plain Mary’ rather than Mary Catherine. Much to my surprise, she (wisely) said ‘Yes.’ When the big day finally arrived, however, I found I couldn’t bring myself to part with my identity. I realized I was not ‘Mary’ but ‘Mary Catherine,’ which name I’ve insisted on ever since.”
