Journal in English:
While still waiting for my friends, I took more photos of the neighborhood. Rather traditional style houses with beautiful, well-pruned trees in the gardens, old-style tiled roofs and beautiful walls/fences also with their little “cap” of blue tiles. Once my friends arrived we took another walk (not difficult because it's a very VERY small street) and I bought a few things. Beautiful vegetables fresh of the day (spinach and leaf lettuce), small sweet-salty dried fish (they were excellent but not from my region), “candied” garlic in a sweet-salty mixture but ultimately the garlic was as hard as when it's raw so a little disappointment there, and semi-dried shrimp, excellent too. For dinner, I took the opportunity to buy fried noodles and Japanese fried chicken (karaage).
The dilapidated gas station symbolizes the decline of small villages in the Japanese countryside. That day, the “DJ” had set up his equipment to play some slightly retro songs.
Thanks for sharing your journaling in English; I enjoyed reading about your day with friends. I love how you split the middle photo on the right; I always forget to do that.
