Journaling reads: In the 1960’s, my friends and I would walk the mile or so to Tiffin Theatre on North Avenue in Chicago. It was a Saturday event to arrive for their afternoon matinee. And while you cannot see it from the photograph, right next door was an ice cream parlor. After the feature, we would all stop there for an afternoon treat, generally an ice cream cone for the walk back home. It was a social event. While our group of friends was usually just a few, it seemed that the entire neighborhood of kids showed up. I saw so many movies there, too many to recall. What you see on this page is a listing of the top 188 movies from the 1960’s (that’s all that would fit). A bit of history on the theater, compliments of the web: It opened on October 30, 1922 with Milton Sills in “Skin Deep” and operated until 1988. Its original 2 manual Wurlitzer theatre organ was later replaced by a 3/15 Wurlitzer organ.
Love this historical look at a theater that was a big part of your past! The vintage picture and the list of films is just the best! The test pattern and the movie reel are truly the icing on the cake!
Great minds think alike! I did mine on the history of the local theater with a companion page about 2 of the movies I can remember seeing there. Nice layout!
Look at you with the list of all the movies and love the old b/w of your old movie theatre.. fabulous! Love this Marilyn!!! I love the old movies and what a list.. I loved the old theatres and how we made events out of going to them. Thanks for the memories I received through your page Love it!
@cfile Thanks, Christa. For my own benefit, I may do something with the spreadsheet I created to capture the 1960s movie list and check off the ones I remember seeing.
