Day11-MOC6-on This Day WEB

Description
Day 11 MOC6 On This Day Journaling
I'm happy to have the chance to scrap this page. It is a very special memory.
This is how I remember it. On a Sunday evening in June 1964 there were 4 girls who had just attended their Anoka High School Baccalaureate ceremony. Pam, Jackie, Jill and me. Afterward we drove to Mr. Big’s . There at the drive-in was another car of Seniors - Boys - from Osseo, Doug, Randy and Greg. The girls got out of their car and went over to the boys car. Pam & Doug were dating but the rest of us were strangers. We got in Doug’s car. Pam & Doug & Jackie in the front and Randy & Jill and Greg & I in the back seat. Greg was eating onion rings and offered me one. I love onion rings & was happy to have one. Later he told me that he was afraid I was going to eat all his onion rings. It surprised me too that I took the onion rings. I was very shy and usually said no thank you to offers to share someones food especially someone I didn’t know. We talked and everyone had a fine time. The girls got out, went back to their car and drove home. All of the girls had been friends since 4th grade. Doug had gone to school with us since 4th grade too but he moved to Osseo in high school. He was dating Pam and that was the how the Osseo boys came into our lives. Not long after that first meeting Jill & Randy started dating. I was working at JC Penney’s that summer and one day Doug was in the store. I asked him about Greg. He said was that Greg Swenson? I said no Greg Campbell the one from Mr. Bigs. He said he’d talk to him. July 19th was our first date. A double date with Jill & Randy. We went to Como Park. And that night we went to a drive in movie - Where the Boys Are with Connie Francis Yvette Mimmeiu and Paula Prentiss. There were many dates after that. I never went out with anyone else once I met Greg. Neither did the other couples. Pam & Doug got married, Jan 1968. Greg & I got married July 1 1967, Jill & Randy got married Nov 1968. And now 50 years later we are all still married to the same people. Although there was no one there that night for Jackie her story has a happy ending too. This last summer she married her partner Gail and we all couldn’t be happier for her. I often wonder what would have happened if we had gotten into that car and sat in different places. Would we have sorted it out? Would we have married the wrong people? But fate was with us and we all lived happily ever after.

Lovely story! How wonderful that you all found that one special person for you, even Jackie.

I love your story. I can totally see you all in the car! Who knows about fate - I think that we make our fate by the decisions we make. I guess I don't believe in "the one" and that if we miss them, we've married the wrong person. You married the right person, I'm sure! :)

What a wonderful story! You have a great storytelling style! And how amazing that you "found" the right boys and that you all got married and stayed married to this day! Love the photo and the shadow on the corner. Thanks for playing along with my challenge!
