Behind the Design: Michelle Godin Designs
Hi all! Polly Jewelle here with another edition of Behind the Design. With a little bit of pleading and maybe a few bribes we got the designers here at the LilyPad to agree to show off their design spaces at home. They also agreed to answer a few questions about their design space that will allow us to get to know them better. This month we are going behind the designs ofMichelle GodinMichelle Godin Designs Mac or PC? Mac all the way! Coffee or tea (or both/neither)?Neither! Just boring water. Guilty pleasure snack while creating/scrapping?Well now you're gonna think I'm really boring. I don't really ever snack. But I often eat dinner in front of the computer while working. Trend Watch-Tape
Tape, Washi Tape, Taped Papers, Sticky Tape, Lables, Sewn up Tape, and more Tape. I don't know about you but I want my pages to have that paper look. Part of that in my mind is that the things on the page aren't all on it with invisible glue dots! Staples and stitches and tape! This Trend Watch is all about tape. The first thing that comes to my mind is Scotch tape, it is a brand of adhesive or sticky tape. The first invention was in 1930, and it was Cellulose tape. During the Depression, buying new was out of the question, so people taped things together. The process for making it is very amazing: 1) Film backing is created2) Pressure-sensitive adhesive added to film3) Backing and adhesive combined into a jumbo roll of tape4) Roll cut into smaller rolls or stripsFast forward 85-90 years add some Washi spice and computers and some remarkably talented designers like … [Read more...]
Hybrid Art Journaling with The Lily Pad
So you've bought all these wicked awesome card sets, and you've used them in your Pocket Project all year long. But you also are curious about how well those cards and other digital items print out, and what else you can use them for.I started out scrapbooking with paper. I love paper. I love books. I used to make books in college and loved art journaling back in the ancient 1980s. I hit a huge concrete brick-lined wall for the past few weeks that plugged up my creativity. It was (and is) horrible. And the thing is, I know I'm not alone in getting these blockages.Hybrid art journaling to the rescue! Drawing and sketching is a skill I'd wanted to get back to for a while. I started there. Then I eyed all the products for paper scrapping that were sitting unused in my closet for the past three years. And I checked out the PDFs the designers include in their Project Life card sets, or … [Read more...]

Lights, Camera, ACTIONS!
Hi Happy Scrappers,Liana here, with a few words about using Photoshop Actions. When I first started in photography, I drooled over the photos that had that extra "oomph." I could tell the photographer had done something to them in post-processing… popped the colors or eased them back into a vintage look. As I poked around and read tutorials, I learned about Photoshop Actions. Actions are little scripts that run in a specific order to do something to an image. To make them, you press the "record" button. Then you do whatever actions you want to capture (in order), and then save the collection. From then on, if you run your saved "action," it will do the same thing to any image you have open. For instance, if I wanted to turn an image black and white and then sharpen it, I could press record and then turn my image b&w and sharpen it, then press stop and save. From then on, … [Read more...]
