Reflections from My First MOC

I cannot believe that MOC is over!! I feel like I just started doing the challenges! Despite hanging around The Pad for a while, this was my first year ever participating in MOC with a clear focus on finishing the challenges. I have to say, I learned a lot from completing all of the challenges in MOC5, some lessons big and others small. Today I want to share my reflections from the MOC process with all of you.

You have to make time to scrapbook – or it won’t happen – This was the biggest revelation I had during the process. For a long time now, I was only scrapping a little bit each month because I felt I didn’t have the time. Finishing MOC5 showed me that, in order to scrapbook regularly, I need to make time for it. With the challenges, I had to set aside time each weekend to try and catch up – and by setting that time aside, I was able to finish. We have to make time for what we feel is important, and that includes scrapbooking.

Challenges inspire me – I had not participated in scrapbooking challenges for a long time. The layouts I would do would be inspired either by a photo or a kit that I wanted to use. I found that participating in the challenges stretched me outside my comfort zone and inspired me in ways I wouldn’t have been inspired on my own. I mean, come on, a challenge where you have to journal from the viewpoint of the walls??? I NEVER would have thought of that.

It’s time to clean up and purge my supplies – I’ve gone through a few computers in the last few months, and have made the switch with all of my supplies each time. Each time I move them to a new computer, I lose the sorting that I had done previously. I’ve been operating out of unsorted folders for a while now, and that was super frustrating while I was trying to get the challenges done. I also saw a whole lot of supplies (from other stores) that I don’t know that I’ll ever use again. Every time I had to scroll through looking for a supply, I mentally told myself it was time to sort and purge once again. That is on my February task list.

Being creative makes me happy – I think I had forgotten how much I get out of scrapbooking as a creative outlet. Sure, it’s not the only creative outlet I have, but I get a lot of creative satisfaction from creating a layout.

So these are the big lessons I learned from MOC5. What about you? What did you learn?
