An Elfing Good Time
Hi Everyone! Pollywog Christine here! This is my first post on The Lilypad blog!
Tonight is our second annual Elf movie viewing party at our house! We invited a few friends over to watch the holiday movie “Elf” together last year. It went over so well that we decided to make it an annual tradition. 🙂
And of course I have to make a homemade treat as a party favor gift for my guests. Any Elf fan would know that Buddy The Elf loves anything sweet. What could be better than some homemade hot cocoa mix for my Elf guests to take home and enjoy this winter? My husband Todd and I tried this “Best-Ever Hot Cocoa Mix” recipe from America’s Test Kitchen last year and it was phenomenal! (The full recipe at the link is available if you register at the America’s Test Kitchen site, it’s free.) And believe me, we are hot chocolate connoisseurs, especially since our first date (oh so long ago) in college involved hot chocolate.
So Todd helped me with mixing the hot cocoa mix, while I did some crafty magic with the jars.

I used some cute holiday stamps from Papertrey Ink, and colored them in with some BIC markers. Then I tied up the jar lids with some red and white twine and attached a small greeting tag.
I also made some cute “Elf Treats” bags to put the homemade hot cocoa jars into for our guests to take home. I used Kate Hadfield’s “Santa’s Little Helpers” doodles to help me out! Kate is so talented! I’ve been a long-time fan of Kate’s doodles even before becoming a Pollywog. Kate did all the work for me, I just downloaded her doodles, imported them into my Silhouette Studio software, traced the cut outlines, printed them out with registration marks, and then let the Silhouette digital cutter do its magic!
Here are Kate’s doodles all cut out for me.

I stamped the bag with some snowflakes. Then adhered the cut-out elves to the bag with some dimensional adhesives. Then I cut out the words “Elf Treats” and also some snowflakes with my Silhouette digital cutter and glued those onto the bag as well.

Look how cute the bags look with Kate’s “Santa’s Little Helpers” doodles! And it goes perfectly with my Elf-theme for my party tonight.
Ok, now I gotta get my elf hat on and make sure there’s enough syrup, candy cane, cake, and other sugary snacks all ready to go before the other elves come over for the party. Happy December!
