Easy (Fancy) Flourless Chocolate Cake

Polly Liana here, with a fun way to make a fancy cake that’s actually really easy and delicious.  First, make a flourless chocolate cake using this really fantastic recipe (click on photo for link to recipe):

After you’ve make the cake, let it cool on a cooling rack.

Then, I create a round stencil out of card stock, using my personal cutting machine (Silhouette or Cricut).  I lay the stencil on the cake.  (Instead of trying this technique on someone else’s cake, I made my own birthday cake so if I messed it up, I would forgive myself.)  🙂

I then put confectioner’s sugar in a sieve and sprinkle it over the cake.

Lastly, I use tweezers to pull the pieces of card stock off the cake.

The white on brown makes a really dramatic looking cake but it’s an easy recipe and pretty simple decorating technique.

I’m a creative who pulls inspiration from all corners of life—both the joyful highs and the real-life moments that punch you in the gut. My brain is usually running on several channels at once, so it’s completely normal for me to be working on a digital layout, dabbling in a hybrid project, and getting messy with art journaling or mixed media—all at the same time.

Here are a few of my go-to tools: Digital: Adobe Photoshop CC + my MacBook; Photos: Canon Rebel or iPhone; Hybrid: Cricut Joy + sewing machine; Art Journaling: watercolors, stencils, and artsticks

And when it comes to embellishments—digital or physical—I’m always reaching for messy threads, ribbons, and Polaroids. Always the Polaroids.
