True! When you drag and drop your papers now do they fall in the same place each time? Mine don't even do that LOL
I have a custom workspace saved, with my name in purple! It's was the total different look between the Lightroom CC (app look) and what is now classic! Have you seen both now? When I opened CC, it looks the same. Phew!
oh and another positive re the File >Place Embedded is that it carries the file name over too, so it is a smart object. it will center on canvas, AND the layer pallet will include the file name, making it much easier for the credits of prroducts
Christa - when I do the file, place embedded and choose a paper to cut into a shape from a template. Then I merge down I loose the name of the kit -- how do you keep the name of the paper?
You can always copy the file name (click on the name in the layer pallet and copy) and the once you merge you can paste. An easy way to choose a paper and then cut to the shape would actually be better to clip (clipping mask) the paper to the shape. (Alt + Ctrl + G is the shortcut for clipping). Another way would be to first rasterize your paper layer. Then using your magic wand on the shape layer, click to get marching ants. With ants marching, choose your paper layer in the layer pallet. On the top tool bar Go to Select > Inverse which will inverse the selection. Then click delete. That should now leave you with the paper in the shape you wanted and the file name of the item // paper should be in the layer pallet. Delete the shape layer. I prefer the clip mask option. Let me know if this helps you.
Christa, I do the clip and then merge down -- that is where I loose the name of the kit/designer on the paper.
What I do if I am merging down i remember to copy the name before merging down and then renaming that layer by pasting the name in the new merged layer.
It's always done that for me when I pull in from other places. Just the centering factor is missing now.
I do too since it's more likely that I want the name of the top item when I merge. If I need the bottom name also, say of a mask, I too copy it and put it into a blank layer that I create under 'Background'. I often do that with a font name that gets lost when a style is attached to it or it's made into a sticker.
This is pretty smart! I always rename my background layer to the template name. I never though to add a layer under it with those other things.
If you want to keep the name of the paper, select both layers (Paper and clipping mask) and use the shortcut control E instead of merge down and it will keep the top layer name when it merges. HTH
Ditto. I always TRY to add the template name instead of Background BEFORE I actually use the template and save but I find I'm often too eager to use and forget.
