For the February we will be reading and discussing "Red Rising" by Pierce Brown . Please label spoilers or even type them in white like I just did right here (highlight that blank space) so that a person has to highlight it to read it. Cheryl @gonewiththewind could you sticky this? Amazon | BN | Goodreads | Chapters
@Karen Well, I would have stickied it for you, but looks like someone beat me to it! Thanks for putting this together!
Just going to check out my daughters bookshelves before going to the library - this is her sort of novel - looking forward to it - the preview chapters I read on amazon had me hooked early!
I have both a digital copy and a hard copy that showed up from the library Saturday. LOL. Just need to get this one started. If it's decent, I'll be recomending it to my son
I've read the whole trilogy and loved it. That being said it took me quite a few pages with each book to really start being interested. So if you don't like it at first push on!
I'm about half-way through with it. I agree that it's a bit slow at first because you're not sure where the story is going. Where the protagonist is now is certainly not where I saw him in the beginning of the book. Keep going!
I'm in the middle of another epic-ly long book so I'm hoping I can finish that up soon and get into this one. I'm looking forward to it.
I doubt I'm going to get to this one... I'm in the middle of a book that is slow going for me. The book is really good, but some things that are going on are troubling to me and it has influenced my motivation to keep reading. Trying to power through so I can move on and join in on the book club book.
About 10% done. It's difficult for me to picture some things since it's so creatively fiction, like the vipers and the web weavers. It's kept my interest so far and I just started today.
Just finally hit 20% and see just learned the "plot" so to speak. Interesting. SPOILERS the scene when he gets to the city with all the humans who were altered in some way was interesting to me. Seems to be a theme I've seen a few times now...in Agents of Shield and in Orphan Black. Makes me wonder if the technology is already being worked on. Eeeww
I'm a bit more than half way through. It's well written and some of the ideas are fascinating. I love science fiction novels about terra forming etc but this only brushes the surface of that aspect. It is very reminiscent of both the Hunger Games and Ender's game. (and to be Honest - Spoiler alert written in white - I am over the use of violence by children and these characters are barely more than children. The culling and then the whole capture/rape/torture scenes are dragging for me - they seem excessive- I am looking forward to Darrow moving on to the next part) Will keep reading but not sure I'll make i to number 2, not until I've had a bit of a break. Can only do one dystopian novel every few months...
