I'd rather not repeat in a hurry!

Had to get my COVID vaccine yesterday and by the time I was able to head out no one local was doing it which was fine. Struggled down my stairs and up up our 50m long driveway to wait for a taxi. Ended up taking taxi to a chemist/pharmacy two suburbs away that was open later and doing it there. After that I rested, mum went and picked up some Subway for us both and we grabbed a taxi back to the local bus station. We ate our subway then went to catch our local bus that goes right past our house but didn’t quite get the timings right so didn’t make it. On to ‘plan b’ - catching a different bus and then connecting to the local bus at the other end. I think I felt every last bump along the trip! When we got to where we needed to do the bus transfer the next bus was like 2 mins away if that and I had just run out of steam. Originally mum was going to pop into the grocery store while I waited at the bus stop then grab the one taxi around but by the time she was finished it was gone. So we waited for the next bus, we were the only ones on the bus as per usual so got dropped off outside our driveway. Then the ‘fun’ began…..struggled for 2 hours to get down my driveway, using a variety of things to help. I already was using a walking stick temporarily but my body was so fatigued by this point it wasn’t effective at all. Used a dining room chair, wheeled rubbish bin and the most effective….an office chair on wheels to push myself with help down the driveway. I was still super exhausted and it had been a mission to get down the stairs so I knew getting up them wouldn’t be easy plus I’d had a couple of vertigo episodes too. I tried and tried. By this time it was super late so we called for help and waited. A single paramedic came after about half an hour and of course after he got me up the stairs, he needed to do my blood pressure and pulse. Both were extremely raised and he was concerned from a professional standpoint. He gave me two options, rest for 20 mins lying down and redo the tests or take me to hospital for observation. Now I’ve never had blood pressure and pulse issues so of course this was concerning. I rested as ordered and drank 500mls of water. He retested and both vital signs were normal again. At nearly 2am, I was finally in my own bed and able to rest my weary body after leaving the house just after 4pm and struggling down our driveway from 9.30pm roughly. Apart from feeling really sore I feel ok today and will just be resting for a few days I think - A good excuse to do some scrapbooking me thinks!

Wow! That was quite the adventure. I am glad your vital signs returned to normal with the water and rest. I hope you can indeed get some rest over the next few days. Please take care of yourself.

So was I. Did not like the thought of having to go into hospital during a pandemic especially as I had made it up the stairs with help when the vital signs were a bit wonky. The thought of having to go back down them just was not appealing at all especially at 12.30am!

What an ordeal! Hope you are resting now.

Don't worry I am 100% resting for the next few days.

Oh Jennifer! Public transportation should be easier somehow! I'm so sorry you had to go through it all, but I'm glad your mum was able to be with you for part of the time, and that you were able to be monitored without going to hospital. I keep you in my prayers, but I'm saying an extra one tonight.

It was totally avoidable in a way, had we left earlier we would have only gone to a chemist/pharmacy closer to home which would have potentially avoided most of the fatigue. Secondly, based on how I was feeling at the time, we thought I'd be ok catching the buses home rather than another taxi ride but alas that was not meant to be and I paid the price for it unfortunately. My blood pressure and heart rate went down as soon as I stopped moving and rested so for now its just a keep an eye on it kind of thing and I'll mention it to my doctor the next time I see him. To be fair, I wouldn't have gone out without my mum on this particular trip given how I was feeling - it was deadline driven, if I didn't get my vaccination I can't see my grandma in her care home later this month.

I'm already feeling much better, just a bit stiff and sore which I expected

Glad you are feeling better @littlekiwi Jennifer! Gosh yes the stress does make everything go awry… feel better

Glad you are feeling better! And yes, totally an excuse to sit and scrapbook. What an ordeal! Was it your first or second dose? Hopefully you don't have any major side effects and can rest well today.

@bestcee, it was first dose and so far so good on the side effects side of things 36 hours later
Oh good!
I was lucky enough to have zero side effects, just a sore arm. So I always hope for that for everyone else!

Will you have to go to the same chemist for the second dose? Or can you do the one closer to home?

I should be able to do one closer to where I’ll be at the time. I’ll actually most likely be at my grandmothers old house over Christmas when I’ll scheduled to have my 2nd dose. It was essential that I had it asap so I can go visit her in care for Christmas. As it is I won’t be able to visit her until the 27th as I need a 21 day gap between doses.

That is quite an adventure!!! Hope you get lots of rest!! Glad you are feeling ok!
