So according to GoDaddy, today is world password day. In this age of technology, how do you determine your passwords? Do you have a cheat sheet hidden or some other trick so you can remember or can you mentally juggle them all? Are you tricky and use leetspeak or a random password generator... or your first pet's name... or random ex-boyfriend's birthdate?

Do you, like me, get frustrated when sites make you reset your password instead of them telling you the specs... say for instance, a website will make you do a password of 8-10 characters and there has to be a capital letter and a number or special symbol... and if they just say that when you're having trouble logging in, it would allow you to remember what you used for that site?

How do you manage it all?

I have a few different password rules, depending on where I'm going online. Shopping sites have more caps or numbers or both. :)

My issue is when DH changes a password for websites we both use. Like, say, he changes it for our cable site and forgets to tell me. So I'm trying to check when the bill is due and the site tells me I can't log in. Now I've asked him not to change passwords for accounts we both use unless he's right in front of me lol.

DH hates how one of my passwords contains a mean statement against where we live. But it's easy for me to remember and no one else will guess it. :eg9

snort!
I have two screens on my desk, and to make them level (one is a bit smaller) I have a Literature book underneath. Written on spine are the main passwords I use...yep I am such a stealth!
I do have the important ones, filed under mom's social security cards. lol

I have a portable app on a thumb drive and on my EHD. The saved file is on my EHD which I can use at home or work. Work alone has multiple complicated passwords that has to be changed every 60 days!

I keep my passwords in OneNote. I have them password protected....so as long as I can remember that password I am good. I do have a print out of all my passwords in a safe place if I can't get into OneNote.

I don't really have a rhyme or reason to my passwords. I make them up as I go. If my hubby sets up whatever it is (accounts that we have together) then there is a pattern...but it's still very unique...in his mind he has it all figured out...me, not so much.

My husband loves to use the symbols and numbers for passwords but he doesn't think the way I do so his logic makes little sense. We almost came to blows with a couple of bank account passwords. :assslap I won for one that's easy to type but safe.

It depends on the site. If I'm shopping on it at all, it's different than others. If it's one of those silly sites like Pinterest that I really could care less if someone gets the password? It's easy to remember and type. And since that's only connected to other sites like that, I don't worry about it. It drives me bonkers that so many sites want you to sign up just to view a page. And why is it that they want to most secure passwords?!?! Ugh.

Thanks for the reminder! I need to go through and change my passwords again.

I have used password generators in the past to come up with mine. Most all sites like digiscrap sites and such have the same password, and it's one I've used forever and it's easy to remember. For bill paying and things, I have more complicated ones and keep them written in the book where I write everything down each month. Sometimes I get lazy and just alter a capital or symbol when I change it. But I do need to change some soon.

Ohhh, I hate passwords but I know it is a necessary evil that we must contend with. What drives me crazy are the places were I click "remember password" and guess what, the site doesn't remember the password!!!!

Maybe I should change my password to Bart?

I suck at passwords. I have many that are the same. Basically everything scrapping I use two passwords. Everything social media is the same. I should totally make some better passwords because this is ridiculous.
And yes I even have them written down in a notebook that's right next to me on the table (not usually though) because even though my passwords suck, I still can't remember them.

It picks my passwords, remembers them, and keeps them safe. It's a lot more secure, and honestly, WAY easier than doing passwords manually.

I'm not as technology savvy as most of you are...but what I'm thinking is, if someone hacks me, wont they be able to get something generated in my computer?

:rofl we are SO alike!!! I have them all written down manually in a place that is nowhere near the computer though... paranoid much? nehhhh :giggle

yes to this, websites like cheap buying stuff and they want you to make a 17 character password, with one number, one captial one ..... you get me.... I just give up and go shop else where!

see I used to think the scrap sites didn't much matter but then again, I am never sure Pay Pal is secure and (in the times I used to buy stuff else where other than the Pad) I started making up different more complicated passwords....

If you use your browser's password manager, then yes, if you are hacked, they can get to everything. LastPass is different. The way it encrypts and stores everything, they would have to be on YOUR device AND know your master password to get to your other passwords. You can't be more secure than with what they do.
