Hello everyone welcome to World Food Day. I have 2 questions for us
  1. Is there a special food/meal that is particular to the part of the world you life in.
  2. What's for dinner today?
1. Is there a special food/meal that is particular to the part of the world you life in. Yorkshire Pudding is a traditional food in England that I ate a lot growing up. In many parts of the Country it's served as an accompaniment to a Sunday Roast dinner. However, coming from a Yorkshire family we had it many times with and without the big roast dinner. Yorkshire pudding can be served with gravy as starter or supper, with jam as a pudding, or as a side to a traditional "meat and 2 veg" meal. One of our favourite Yorkshire Pudding specials is "Toad in the Hole" where sausages are cooked inside the Yorkshire pudding batter. Unfortunately I've not had any success making them gluten free so they don't find their way onto my dinner plate anymore.

2. What's for dinner today? For dinner today we are having Cajun Chicken and rice. Looks like hubby is making plum crumble for afterwards ... yum

1. Is there a special food/meal that is particular to the part of the world you life in? Hmm... I don't even know. I'd say as an American we eat all kinds of things for all over the world, but then we "americanize" them so they aren't quite the same as they started. Maybe hotdogs or hamburgers are "American" food?

If you want to get specific to the place I was born and raised (in Michigan) I'd say that Michigan strawberries are something unique to our area. Even just thinking about them makes my mouth water. I don't know why ours are different than any I've seen in the stores, but when they are ripened on the plants and picked ripe they are the reddest berries all the way through that you can imagine and are so sweet and juicy and yummy! They are only available for about three weeks in June, so we eat a lot of strawberry related things in June around here!

ETA: Found a picture of a Michigan strawberry:

2. What's for dinner today? I think I'll be making sweet and sour chicken for dinner tonight with sides of white rice and broccoli. It's one that everyone in our family likes.

I don’t think I’ve ever had Yorkshire pudding or Michigan strawberries.

I’m going to go with Jell-o lol I grew up eating Jell-o with every Sunday dinner. My mom would add bottled fruit from our basement. Someone dropped the spoon in once and left it which started a tradition of adding a surprise to the Jell-o (my least favorite surprise was chocolate chips).

What's for dinner today?
I’m providing dinner for my daughter’s volleyball team tonight (my least favorite part of high school sports) so it’s Costco pizza, mango, pineapple, veggie trays, cookies, and sport drinks.

You probably could consider barbeque a special food from where I live but it's also popular in other states. I think Carolina Barbeque is a little different from other areas. I'm no expert though.

Tacos!

1. Is there a special food/meal that is particular to the part of the world you life in? Maple syrup and poutine. Poutine is a French-Canadian dish of chips/french fries and cheese curds and brown gravy (yes, really!). And maple syrup is pretty much a staple product in our household. Growing up, we used to go to the sugar bush each year in the early spring (in the 'sugaring-off season'), to eat maple taffy on snow (yum!).

2. What's for dinner today? Tonight's dinner was a bit of a mish-mash: baked potato, salad, and leftover lentil soup

  2. What's for dinner today? Tonight i am doing a steak stir fry with lots of veggies and some peanut sauce and some left over sticky rice

Hmm there's a few I can think of of the top of my head.
Pavlova, now there's debate on this one between New Zealand & Australia as to it's origins. Its a meringue based desert usually covered in whipped cream & fruit, most of the time berries or kiwifruit or passion fruit.

Anzac biscuits (cookies) are another thing we share with Australia. They are biscuits that are most often available in April to celebrate ANZAC day (similar to a remembrance day). They are made up of made using rolled oats, flour, sugar, butter (or margarine), golden syrup, butter or margarine, baking soda, boiling water and optionally dessicated coconut.

Finally there's an even more local delicacy for certain parts the South Island of New Zealand - one I've never ever had. Southland Cheese Rolls aka: Southland Sushi. It's made up of powdered onion soup mix, grated cheese, evaporated milk, white bread, salt & pepper, butter or margarine. From what I can tell looking at recipes for it, it's basically an oniony cheese sauce kind of thing on rolled up buttered white bread that's baked.
