So... I was finishing up some things last night (Sorry, Amber)... and my MacBook Pro flickered, and then got dark. Then it seemed as if it was coming back. Nope. Ugh. Oh No... please.... no. :tantrum
(insert moaning, lol).

After a few deep breaths and trying to re-start, it wasn't happening. Hooked it up to power, and started to try to recover and repair. I've got it going in Recovery mode, but then Disk Utility can't repair itself. At this point, I don't want to copy the HD, or do anything to make it worse and it's after 1:30 am. I head to bed to wake at 5:30, so I made an appointment at the Genius Bar at Apple to look at my laptop after work.

Please, please send some love to my computer to get well soon.

It is old, but has been very reliable, and I love, LOVE it. I don't want a new one... only because they don't make mine anymore, and I will seriously cry. :cry (It's a 17" that is probably 5 years old. They don't make this size anymore. I can't go backwards to 15," and I can't go back to PC.)

I have a back up of photos, and other files, plus a Time Machine Back up... only it's probably from early May, after Photos came out. Not horrible, not ideal, but better than nothing! (Yes, I'm a pollyanna!)

Thanks, everyone! :heartlub

Oh no!!! sending good thoughts your way--that is a huge fear for me too!!

Oh man. We lost 2 computers last year and my biggest fear is that we'll lost this one as well (they are all OLD). Hopefully you're able to resurrect yours. Good luck!

Thanks so much ladies... I'll keep you posted! I'm hoping for a fix (and a look see to update the parts/memory)!

OH. They can do magical things at Apple. Fingers totally crossed for you.

I will say that 5 years is not too long for a MacBook... We just bought my son a 2010 MacBook for school. Old but just what he needs (considering the cost of a new one, LOL). So, I feel your pain re: not wanting to let it go.

My other son just lost his 2008 MacBook, but I suspect it had to do with him taking it apart trying to fix something himself. Sigh. LOL.

Anyway, all that to say... good luck. Keep us posted.

Sending positive thoughts your way!! Hopefully they'll be able to revive it! They are called geniuses for a reason, right? :)

Thinking about you, Jenn! Crossing my fingers this all works out for you! I'm really hoping that they can fix it & not try to sell you on a new computer.

I've got an iPhone 4 & it can't upgrade to the new operating system. Some of my apps have stopped working. This is Apple we're talking about, so it's all about trying to get me to buy a new phone!

Noooooo!:throwpc

I hate the black screen, or blue screen or any screen that isn't what it should be, pfft. I stay total old school with a desktop so worse case scenario I can just replace a part or 2 - I am lame :moo

Sending out an extra :hug while you sort it

Gosh, I know the feeling, have been there too, not wanting to change, but I had to.

I really really am crossing my fingers for you!

I haven't been a Genius in years, so things might have changed, but still I'd be surprised if they couldn't fix it for far less than the cost of a new one! I hate being without my computer for any length of time, but it could definitely be worse. Fingers crossed for you!

Oh no! Good luck with getting everything back! Fingers crossed.

I sure hope they were able to fix you up and that you'll be back in business in no time!
