we are expecting high damaging winds today.....60MPH plus
think Little House on the Prairie crazy winds.
I love my desert, but not when it comes in my house...bhahhaha
I will close my window today (the dirt will make it very gloomy looking anyway) and turn up the music loud!

what one part of weather do you just dread??

In Houston it was the humidity--but when we lived there we didn't experience any bad hurricanes. I can tell you I still worried about them but since I didn't experience one I don't feel right saying I dreaded them.
Here my dread is the same as yours: wind. I didn't realize how bad it could get here on the East Coast! Last week it ripped some boards off our brand new fence's gate. Easy enough to fix but still annoying.

I have to agree with the wind. Being with the Red Cross Disaster Team for 25 years, I have seen it all, and wind can do a damage like you wouldn't believe!! ie: hurricanes, tornados etc.

Snow and sub-freezing temperatures, but mostly snow. It literally shuts down life here in the DC area because it turns right into ice.

I grew up in SoCal and we had the wonderful Santa Ana winds to deal with. I will always remember the days of driving my 1959 VW Bug on the freeway and doing automatic lane changes. :huh Kid you not. It was quite scary. And the winds usually meant downed fences and torn up roofs, too. But I'll take them over the snow any day!

We tend not to get extreme weather here. There was a time when we got hurricane-force winds. It was just getting bad when I went to pick up the girls from preschool that day, and the wind knocked Maggie down! We ran home and stayed inside until the next day. DH couldn't even get home from work because of all the damage, but fortunately he got to his parents' house for the night. It was pretty horrible but I can't say I dread it because it doesn't happen much. I think what I most dread is the heat, because I know it will happen every year, even though it isn't as awful.

I would say the cold, wet, dreary days. They bring me down a bit, and sometimes it's harder to make your own sunshine. Usually, it's those type of days, too!

I hate the rain - lived most of my life in western Washington where it rains 300 days a year. So 7 years ago, we moved to eastern Washington, where it's sunny 300 days a year! We do get the wind here a lot, and some hellacious dust storms, but I'll take them over the rain!

I didn't know (or remember) you were in Eastern WA. Did you get the bad windstorms earlier this year? I can't say I dread them but when I hear them coming I know it's going to be a long week of hearing about the damage. And hoping not to lose electricity.

You nailed it for me. The gloomy cold days are the worst. I was thinking I didn't really dread any weather that much, but you are exactly right. Some days it's hard to even get up and get active cuz it just isn't pretty outside.

The thing I most dread about weather is when it cancels our activities. We are so grateful the blizzard came two weekends ago instead of last weekend when it would have interfered with my daughter's drama club production of Narnia. I also dread driving in snow, but in the 16 years I've lived here I've managed to avoid doing that except a few times. Sometimes I have to worry about my husband driving in it, but he has a lot more experience; he even learned to drive in snow, in Ohio.

In the 7 years we've been here, we've lost power maybe twice, and then only for short blips. Which really surprises me, given all the wind we get. And yes, we definitely got the wind/dust storms earlier! We're up on a hill and overlook the Tri-Cities and the Columbia River, so it was actually kind of fun watching the dust roll in and roll out. Unfortunately, we also got all the nasty dust and smoke from the wildfires last summer!

Batten down the hatches gurl! I hope everything stays intact. :-)

I'm a Wisconsinite and I dread ice/ice storms... it's just plain not safe to move at all! :-/

We've been lucky and not lost power or at least only for a few hours. Oh yeah you would get the dust storms there. And the smoke last year was awful. You could hardly see to drive.

I dread cold weather- usually the hotter the better for me! I don't mind rain, especially thunderstorms, unless it's the kind of rain that stays around for days and days and days. That just gets depressing.

My husband says I'm solar powered. :)

SNOW! I hate snow!!!! I just can't enjoy it. It terrifies me! Really it does! If someone flew me up to the snow and dropped me off in a warm lodge where I could sit and drink hot drinks I'd be golden. For some reason I don't see happening soon!

Blizzards with zero visibility and having to drive somewhere. Oh, and freezing rain and having to drive somewhere. I'm a white-knuckle driver under those conditions. Fortunately, it doesn't happen very often.

I hate sub-zero temperatures... thankfully this winter hasn't had many of those (yet). I don't like the rain - it makes mud and my dogs bring the mud in with them. I don't mind mopping my floors, but when I have to do it a dozen or more times a day it gets old.

I must say... driving in snow or other weather doesn't bother me much. I'm lucky. (My mother doesn't drive out of our town, so my Dad made sure I wasn't afraid to drive in anything!) He made me drive so many different areas - Upstate NY, Maine, NJ, Virginia... from muddy back roads, quarries, regular roads, and snowed in roads. This is all a long time ago, but some of those skills have paid off! I do worry about the other drivers, though! :giggle

@scrappyjedi I love that - Solar powered! I'm going to call my MIL that.... :)

I don't like the snow. I know that I live in Utah with the greatest snow on earth but I don't like it. I liked it when I was a kid. I guess I'm tired of it. I want to live somewhere warm. You don't have to shovel warm.

I dont mind a cold

Yep this for me too. I dont mind a cold wet day here and there- gives a good excuse to have a TV/slug around the house/stay under a blanket day. But my son and I are also solar powered so bring on the sun!
But summer afternoon showers - those are fun!
