I wonder if they'd make a "Running" thread for us? :whistle:flirty

I've found that a lot of runners as a whole love helping eachother out.. although I stay away from elite runners so maybe I'm wrong. I always felt bad for bugging my "coach" with tons of running questions and she'd always tell me "anything for a fellow runner" and I think she was as thrilled as I was when I crossed the finish line in less than an hour. :) It was so awesome!

I think maybe I made the mistake of trying to do C25K with my husband and daughter...my daughter and I just weren't able to keep the pace that my husband was and he was getting frustrated. Made me feel like a total failure. I also feel like if I went any slower I'd be walking..lol. I can walk for a long time with no issues...but running, man..so hard.

I run almost every day. I've never done a marathon, though it's definitely on my bucket list. I knew we had a few runners here, but not this many!

I really want to be a runner, but I just don't love it. I started running a couple of years ago and was up to being able to do about 6 miles, but every inch of those miles I just hated! LOL I bought a book called The Beginner's Running Handbook (or something like that?), and it was a great program that eases you into running without injury, it just didn't teach me how to really like it. I'm more of an aerobics girl, I think. I don't know... maybe I'll try again after this baby's born this spring.

I can't say that I LOOOVE running, it's more like a love/hate relationship. :giggle There are some days when I'm running I CAN'T WAIT to finish and there are others where I feel really good and just enjoy it. I love bringing my dog, Diesel (she's a German Shepherd) with me too, she keeps me company. She LOVES it! She's ready to go out the door before I am! LOL. Here she is with me on Wednesday looking at me like, "Why we stoppin, Ma?"

Yep, you have to go your own pace. And it's ok if it's a near walk. I have clients who can actually walk faster than they run at first. ITS OK. They get there!

It also helps if you find a running group, or a couple of running buddies. They make the miles FLY by. I swear we can run 10 miles before I even notice. And you bond so quickly when you have nothing to do but talk to each other for hours a week. lol

My main training buddy and I once ran 20 miles just the 2 of us, then stood in the parking lot talking for another 30 minutes when we were done. You'd think we'd have had time to cover everything we wanted to say over the course of the 3 1/2 hour run...? I love my running buddies!

This week I've run by myself mostly, with my dog. A tired dog is a good dog.

Oh, and this might help too... I have been doing intervals since I'm starting up again. 1 min warmup, 5 min run, 1 min walk (6 times) and then I do 5 min. cooldown. And I LOVE the app Interval Pro (iPhone)... you can set up your warmup/cooldown times, your intervals to run/walk and it buzzes so you know when to do it. I also run that with my Nike + GPS app so I know how far I've gone.

When I ran my half marathon I ran intervals... it helped prevent my legs from getting too fatigued (and just fatigue in general :giggle )

This totally works! I have found that even just 30 seconds every 5 minutes or so (that's normally when I change songs on my ipod) helps. I did a half marathon in 2010 and registered for one last November but ended up with strep and couldn't do it. I am going to sign up for Gasparilla, which is March 4th so that will be my 2nd. It's the last chance I will have to run it so that's good motivation :)

2 of my runs a week I do strides in the last mile. That helps, too. So, I run 4 miles easy, then for the last mile I alternate 20 seconds fast with 1:00 easy. Being able to go fast on tired legs is a great skill.

Strength training helps tons, too. Squats, lunges, and so on.

I haven't been to Gasparilla in, hmm... 4 years or so (we celebrated Thanksgiving one year with my in-laws). Why is it the last chance to run this one Kelly? Where in Fla. are you, Tampa?

Oh yes! I do that twice a week. Just started doing Jillian Michael's No More Trouble Zones again (haven't done it in over 8 months) and I can tell it's already helping! Yesterday, though... I could barely stand up I was so sore :giggle

My quads are currently fried from doing Wall Balls at Crossfit. Holy hell those kick my butt! After the first 10, my heart rate was like 195. And we did 100. Haha.

It's harder than it looks. That ball weighs 14# and the line is 9 feet up. lol
