What do you do on Mondays versus Wednesdays? What is on your "every day" list?

I am working on one for my family, and I'm curious to know what works for others. All I know is, I need to get my house cleaned. What I was doing before (which was nothing), is not working. :giggle

my kids started school today - and i'm working on this very thing! so far i'm just jotting notes down in a notebook with my ideas - and hopefully by next week i'll have it detailed out .. can't wait to get other ideas here too :) i have a cleaning lady once/week - so i just have to keep the house straight, do laundry and keep kitchen and floors reasonably clean every day ...

some of my line items (in no order):
work out
unload dishwasher
pack lunches
prep dinner while kids are at school
make beds and straighten house
1 load laundry/day
clean out emails (i have almost 4,000 unread messages .. ughh) (want to do a little each day)
check in here
scrap one page/day
spend some time on a project (e.g., organize digital pictures, clean out basement, work on family tree, learn to sew, learn to use my digital camera, etc etc)

weekly:
wash car
clean out purse
meal plan for upcoming week
organize bins for kids activities for upcoming week (i put all their sports clothes, etc in drawers in the mudroom - one drawer/day)
???

i'm on the nothing list. it's not working here either!!!

That is quite a popular list... did you see my name there too?

Like Dana, I'm going to try to get organized for when school starts. I bought a new notebook today. LOL. I'm good at buying supplies to organize, but when I actually have to organize... not so much. I'm trying to figure out some sort of a schedule though. So I'll keep an eye on what works for you ladies. :giggle

I haven't ever had my own list. So far, I've separated daily, every other day, weekly, biweekly and monthly. In our house.... dishes, trash, sweep/swiffer floors are every other day. Feeding the dog, preparing tomorrow's coffee, pulling meat from the freezer, counters cleared off, mail filed: every day. This is just so far. Certainly not complete, and I'll eventually break it down to kids do xyz chores, I do abc, husband does whatever. I'm sick of feeling like I do it all, when I know I'm not actually doing all, especially when I also feel like I'm totally lazy. A list is going to help me. I will make it help me. Lol

My kids chore chart is in their ipods. We don't have specific days for chores, but they check off what they do and I have a monetary value associated to it. Not much, usually .25 or .50. But it helps them save money and feel like they are accomplishing something. The other rule we have is before they could spend anything, they had to save up $100 and when that's done they are only allowed to spend half of what they have... does that make sense?

Yes, makes sense. My kids are too young for money, just yet. (2 & 3) for now, they get things like, pick up toys, put away books, put away laundry, fold towels. Things like that. :)

well, you are on my list :giggle
I just wrote to you, I haven't forgotten, just deleted your message without realizing but will do it, promise!!!!

you don't want to even make a list of chores here...it would hurt.:tantrum

I absolutely LOVE to watch YouTube videos about people and their chore lists and then actually watch them clean. It's so satisfying, because my physical activity is so limited right now with this back pain (next week, though, peeps, that should change with this new procedure, fingers crossed). Anyway, to see something not be clean and then be clean makes me very happy. LOL It's a sickness.

As far as my own chores, I've been doing things the way I have for so long that I don't think about it and don't have lists. My house is always picked up and presentable for guests almost always, but the one thing I struggle with is dusting. I hate it because it seems like I do it and IMMEDIATELY dust comes back. What a waste of time. Ha!

One of the biggest things I've done to make sure I fit everything in, including loads of free time for scrapping and internet stuff, is to do things in chunks of time. Fifteen minutes is my friend. I get up and do as much as I can in fifteen minutes. OK, admittedly, lately it's more like five or ten minutes, whatever my back can handle. But it always amazes me how much I can get done in that spot of time.

The other thing is if I can do something in a minute or less . . . put something away/file, wipe something off, fold something, etc., to just go ahead and do it if I'm right there.

I could go on and on and on about this. I love organizing and cleaning and having an orderly home.

Oh I hate cleaning. (and to think I also teach housekeeping?!)
I have tried so many systems but none of them seem to work for me.

Some chores like laundry, meal planning and grocery shopping I find kinda fun and is done weekly without problem. Vacuming and mopping are definitely my least favourite chores. However I have been able to keep the house neat in the last three weeks while school started.

I'm trying to get into a system of 1 chore a day. Like vacuming, cleaning the bathroom, etc. I pick up the living room each night. And the 'rule' of always having a clean sink (I read that somewhere) makes my kitchen clean and tidy as well.
Seeing I live alone in a small apartment I think this actually might do the trick for me.

:hummmPeople make videos? and others watch them? Anytime you want, you can video chat me and watch me clean:stash:laundry :)

Hahaha. I don't watch YouTube videos of people cleaning. Doing it myself is bad enough. Lol

I don't really have a chore chart or anything like that. Flying by the seat of my pants and winging it have worked for me this long, no sense changing it now :P

Girls! You need to catch up with me here! Day in the Life and Speed Cleaning videos are where it's at! Just search YouTube! I'm telling you, when I can't do anything, that's the BEST thing. To watch it go from messy to clean. I feel like I've done something when I haven't. LOL

I can see how that would work.... watching videos of someone else doing it, feeling like you can do or have done it.

I watch YouTube for music video playlists, kids songs playlists, or scrapbooking tutorials on occasion.... i don't think about the fact that someone has a video for everything on there... including cleaning. Lol

We have no lists for family chores. The boys had a great chore list this summer, which towards the end of the summer was ignored more and more frequently.

As far as MY list... I hit the most obvious messes first and fly by the seat of my pants most of the time. It's good to have out of town guests because that's when things get really clean. My hubby and I attack in tandem and can do a really good job team cleaning when we really HAVE to.

While hubby was unemployed, the cleaning was all his job. Now that he has a job (yay!), I've been on an organizing spree. Yesterday was his 2nd day on the job. I washed every dish we own & kept washing as they were used. I tackled the huge pile of clean laundry he left in the living room. I folded & put away the kids' clothes first, the 7yr old joined in. At 7pm I traded an extra hour of tv for the boys putting away & sorting their trains. After they went to bed, I folded & put away my clothes. Then I texted hubby that I would bag up the garbage for him to take out when he got home. Thus avoiding having to get dressed to go outside (hah!). He ended up folding his clothes as soon as he got home. Felt like something got done yesterday!

I tend to put a load of laundry in first thing when I wake up, as I'm waiting for my coffee to brew. After I workout and get breakfast, I will hang it or dry it and while the kids eat lunch I'll fold and put away. I homeschool, so not a lot of time to clean during the week. I usually at least sweep and vacuum every other day, but heavy cleaning like scrubbing bathrooms, mopping, dusting, etc. usually get done over the weekend. I wish it would just start to clean itself! ;)
