,,,if you haven't slept enough, say you had 2 hours sleep, and then the day started...you don't have much to do...what are your choices?

I slept under 2 hours...but I'm thinking if I sleep now (12:45 almost 1pm)
I'll be asleep the whole afternoon and then I wont sleep at night....
Do you tend to sleep anyway?
If you don't...what do you do to keep yourself awake?
apart from drinking coffee LOL

I stay awake if I can because otherwise I start a really bad cycle of needing kips in the afternoon, and then I can't sleep the following night and so it continues until I drop.
Like today I slept after 4 am and woke at 7,30 made myself stay in bed until 8.30, but then got up ( it is a public holiday here today )
Did some tidying up, visited a friend, had lunch , now my hubby is asleep on the sofa, and I am yawning , but I am here writing this! that is what I usually do go; on the computer, but it can have quite a hypnotic effect ( once I fell asleep at the table LOL ) so I get up every 20 min or so, have coffee, cold water, whatever.
If I am too tired I sit in a chair ( having first set the alarm on my phone ) and read a book, if I dose of ( and I will ) When the alarm rings an hour or so later I am uncomfortable from having slept sitting up, and I will not dose of again. I never go to bed, the whole day will disappear .....
At least this way when I go to bed round 11 pm tonight, I will sleep before midnight ( hopefully) and not wake up til 5 or 6 .

I will sleep because I am a cranky monster when I don't get sufficient rest!!! lol!!

i stay up. i am not a daytime sleeper/napper at all. even if i got 0 sleep. i'd never be able to do one those shift jobs!!!

i did this Sat night. got about 3 hours. and stayed up all day Sunday until 11pm last night studying for an exam. lots of coffee helps, but mixed in with a good dose of water too! if i am busy enough, my head doesn't have a chance to feel how tired it really is. i don't do things that are very physical on those days bc my body will feel it.

i hope you get your rest tonight. :beat

I stay up. Keep going, and then try to head to bed earlier the next night. I have breathing techniques that help me, so that really helps. If it's a bad night, I end up usually with 4 hours of sleep, and can function.... but know to keep my distance with others, lol! It's not their fault, so I try to keep my mouth shut, and be nice.

well I guess by majority am staying up today!!!!!

yes!!!!! me too!!!!! because I have the computer by my bed , am sitting in bed leaning to my left side, sometimes when I haven't gotten any sleep I would suddenly wake up and, say I was doing a GSO post.... I fell asleep on the keyboard with my arm...so I wake up to a whole page of one letter :giggle
it has happened that I fell asleep sitting up too!!!

I will sleep because I am a cranky monster when I don't get sufficient rest!!! lol!!

:rofl:rofl:rofl hahahahahah yes!!!! me too!!!!! and when I'm hungry, or when I can't smoke, which I have the three on today !!! but as I have none here I thought I force myself to not be grumpy .... LOL on a more serious note: I know there are times you HAVE to sleep...:heartlub:heartlub:heartlub

yes, that... I also have this thing, if I have spent the day after a no sleepo, keep going, but coming, say 8 or 9pm I don't go to sleep...it will cancel the tiredness...and I read somewhere that the computer doesn't help , kinda keeps you awake, so I always try reading...
Can't do much physical on my own but I think I will go make some toast or something like that!!!! (and thanks!!!!!)

oh yes to the techniques for breathing! Laura posted some a few months ago, most of the time they do work!!!
now, keeping my mouth shut......
that is a whole different story :rofl:rofl

I would totally sleep. I'm one of those people who can take a 2-3 hour nap, get up, and not have any problem going to sleep at night. I never have a problem going to sleep. I could get in bed right now (after sleeping 8 hours last night) and sleep for hours. I'm constantly tired.

Lately, I've been trying to get up earlier and/or not nap because I need to get things done, but the lure of the nap is always a strong one. :giggle My daughter refers to my bed as "the poppy field" (like outside of Oz) because the minute I sit down on it, I'm ready to fall asleep.

LOL Kim!!!!!!! I honestly envy that ability to fall asleep... I have fibromyalgia so I'm constantly tired, fatigue follows me every minute and pain is a constant, and falling asleep does not come easy to me...I also sleep no more than 5 hours at the time...very very rarely I get to sleep more than that... anyway, am still awake, waiting for time to take medication which changed now, and Sarita to come back so I go sleep :)

I would have to suck it up and stay awake. I just can't nap during the day (unless I am sick). My kids are power nappers, I think most college students or young adults are but that is just something I am not able to do.

I nap all the time but then I'm all out of whack for sleeping at night.

behind the computer i mostly stay awake...
Because when i go to sleep that time of the day, i will wake up with head ace.

Sometimes I power through, sometimes I just HAVE to nap for an hour or two, a lot of it depends on my work schedule, which changes every week.

It's a mixed answer for me. If I didn't sleep much I usually try to take a nap but maybe on the couch where it isn't as comfortable and there are more distractions (animals). I'm in a round of being exhausted at 8pm ending up in bed and "napping" for 2 hours then up for 1 o 2 and then sleep for the night. I've learned if I get that "second wind" (push past the exhausted point) I'm in a lot of trouble.

Thankfully I don't have trouble sleeping at night, but when I do silly things like stay up WAY past my bedtime reading or scrapping and I'm dragging the next day, I will come home at lunch and take a 30 minute nap before heading back to work. It's enough to clear my head and make it through until bedtime. Without the knowledge I HAVE to go back to work I would nap for hours, so it's good to have a reason that I have to get up after only 30 minutes. I just set my phone alarm and snuggle in bed.

If I don't have much to do I probably cat nap in the recliner in the family room. I'm not so good at sleeping in the daytime either. If I have a lot to do - like go to work - I'm just crabby..:tantrum:dizzy

Well... I made it to almost midnight last night )I think? LOL)
with the help of a few of you around here!!!
I slept until 11:30 this morning though, so you may have me pestering you tonight again LOL

So, I completely understand getting 5 or less hours of sleep a night. I have to get my DD to the ice rink 3x week at 5:00 am (and I work at the rink at the same time) and many times I can't get to bed early enough. I just try to keep mentally busy. It's when I stop moving/thinking that the tiredness hits big time.

If I nap - even 5 minutes - I won't sleep at all that night. Strange, but true. I've always been a lousy sleeper, so I've just learned to deal with constant fatigue.

Jan, I hear you.... also, if I wake up too late (like this afternoon!!!!) I will be up late the day after (like I am now LOL 3:30 am!!!!!)

thing is, today I'm feeling great, but need to force myself to sleep in a little while or I wont be functioning tomorrow!!!!

This is EXACTLY me. I only have to see a bed to come over all sleepy :giggle Not being able to sleep is so abhorrent to me, I don't think my brain will even entertain it ha! I seriously feel for all you non sleepers. It must be so awful and if I could, I would wave a magic wand of sleepy dust over you all :beat
