What did you think of the Opening Ceremonies?

I enjoyed the opening ceremony - although I'll admit to falling asleep during the parade (oops! But it was pretty late!). Woke up to see Becks bring the torch in and good to see Steve Redgrave bringing it inside :).

I loved the history stuff at the beginning and the forging of the ring was fab. I wasn't really sure about all the texting and facebooking blather but I LOVED the music section - wasn't sure why they skimmed over the eighties and nineties so much, not like there wasn't plenty of cool Brit music at the time - Dizzee was fantastic and I thought the Arctic Monkeys were great later too. Not normally a fan of there's but they've almost got me convinced :)

The queen and 007 was the best part. . . can she ever smile?! Paul McCartney wasn't good IMO. . . love watching the parade of athletes and loved the children's choirs, but some of the techno stuff was a bit odd.

We taped it and are just watching it now. It's SO different from Beijing, I don't know that you can really compare the two. But I love the concept of the history of the UK, and the sheer magnitude of all the work and coordination what went into this is just phenomenal. They're bringing the give rings together now, and the whole things, with the music and everything, is just amazing!

I totally agree with you!!
I loved the Parade of Nations though...but it was taped here so not too late :)
I also loved the Queen's corgi's! I want one now!

I loved that when Steve Redgrave was running in with the torch, the halls inside were lined with the construction workers that helped build that stadium. I don't know if they usually do that, but to me it really showed pride in their working class too. For my dh and I, it was a powerful statement.
