What did you think of the Opening Ceremonies?

I really enjoyed when they were picking up the grass etc and it transformed it into the Industrial section. Also, the kids jumping on the beds was really cute!

:thumbsups I LOVED it!! Specially the part with Mr. Bean and Her Majesty the Queen entrance with James Bond!! OMG, so cool!!

I was really disappointed. I don't recall ever watching the opening ceremonies, so I don't have any reference points, but I found it a bit ridiculous (sorry!). The James Bond part was my favorite, but I found it a bit over the top with the helicopter part.. I did love the doggies. :) I am enjoying the teams though!

I've been watching all the open ceremonies since I can remember because I love seeing what each country will come up with, kwim? The farthest (is this a real word?LOL) I can remember is Seul in 1988 :D

Walmart dressed the athletes this year which was awesome. I think the best part of the ceremonies was making fun of it on FB. LOL in other words I was less than dazzled LOL

It's still on here in MI - EST time - waiting for US to come out. I missed a part in the middle, but it has been pretty good so far. Not spectacular, but still fun to watch! Love seeing the heritage of London come out, the different countries all so proud of themselves, etc...Just the thought of ALL of these countries in one facility is AMAZING in and of itself!

I was only able to catch from the parade of nations on, so I missed a lot of it, but honestly the parade of nations and the lighting of the cauldron are what it's all about for me so I was glad to see that part. I'll have to see what footage I can find of the James Bond thing with the queen because that looks like it could be entertaining.

Some of it was cool - the beginning and the big set with all the great songs. But that big baby was weird!!!!
The torch lighting was pretty cool. I always love seeing the countries come in, too. Love to see how many people are there from all over the world - not matter what's going on or who's fighting with who.

Some parts I enjoyed more than others. Bugga was really creeped out by the ginormo Voldemort and the Dementors and that Big Creepy Baby. But the music was fun and I thought the general staging and essence of storytelling was creative and interesting. Rowan Atkinson gave good giggle. Enjoyed the lighting of the torch. Really very cool!

Thumb up, definitely!! Because James Bond, Rowan Atkinson, lighting of Olympic flame, music and whole scenes from British history!! :cheer

I thought they did a great job overall highlighting their history and the things they're most proud of. I was thankful for the commentary to give explanation of bits of it... I would not have understood WHY the dancing nurses and kids in beds without a bit of help from the voices on tv :giggle
My most favorite part was when they forged the Olympic rings out of the industrial scene. The pyrotechnics for that was pretty cool... I'm not gonna lie, I got a little choked up (cuz I'm a super sap *ha*). I also thoroughly enjoyed watching the faces of the performers. You could see the pride and the joy on their faces to just be a part of that moment. Regardless of how spectacular or not the spectators may have found it, I love the human emotion that was so evident in those that were a part of it.

That's the part I loved, too, Rebecca. I can't imagine how amazing it would be to be able to perform in the Olympic opening ceremonies. I got choked up imagining one of my adopted-children-to-be (which I don't even have the process started for yet! *lol*) competing in the Olympics and me being there and him/her winning!

Yup, I'm definitely weird.

I always love the Opening Ceremony! I also always get choked up. I did participate in the Opening Ceremony for the 2002 Winter Games and it's still one of the most amazing things I've ever been a part of. I've always loved the Olympics, but it brings back so many wonderful memories now . . . so I just cry.

That must have been truly an awesome experience to participate in an Opening Ceremony! How exciting for you!

It was amazing! The whole Olympic experience was amazing. I was in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir at the time. We rehearsed, recorded, and performed with Michael Kamen, John Williams, and Sting. We were rehearsing and performing every single day throughout the Games. It was thrilling and exhausting! I was sick by the end of it all and my husband was wondering where I had disappeared to. But, it was truly a once in a lifetime experience, and I'm so grateful that I was able to be part of it. If you ever hear the Citius, Altius, Fortius anthem from the 2002 Games, you're hearing ME (and 350 of my best friends). :D

Lydia, that is so cool you were able to be in the choir and be a part of the games that way! You must have an amazing voice. I was in SLC for a few days during the olympics in 2002, it was really cool but I wasn't able to go to any of the events.

I was not super thrilled w/ the opening ceremonies... I felt the first half was just too drawn out. The part with the rings being forged was awesome, and I liked the James Bond/Queen bit, but I didn't really get the whole song and dance thing. My favorite part was how they lit the torch, that was awesome!

there was a lot that made me go o_O .. connor hated it. it was cool overall, just long and i watched the nbc coverage--and they were obnoxious :p
