What are you wearing New Year's Eve? (And other good luck traditions)

In University, part of our New Year's party, was that everyone wore lucky new underwear. Sometimes on the outside. It's a Latin American thing, I have no idea how we started doing it. But I've kept the tradition up, buying my husband and myself new underwear for every New Year's Eve. It's pretty easy for women, but finding men's underwear in yellow can be kind of a challenge (and is usually expensive). This year, we're both wearing green for generic good luck.

We're also making Gateau du Roi (The almond cake with the hidden bean/coin inside. Whoever finds the bean is the King (Roi) or Queen (Reine) for the year) and a vegan Hoppin' John with black eyed-peas for good luck.

Does anyone else wear lucky underwear? What other New Year's good luck superstitions do you have?

@MrsPeel was telling me about the yellow underwear with white clothes awhile back, I'd never heard of it before then. I don't buy underwear for the new year, but whenever I start a school semester, I buy new underwear. I'll be wearing pajamas New Year's Eve, that's all I really know.

I have never heard of the underwear thing either, but how fun! I might have to give it a go this year...with my pajamas :giggle
I'll be cooking cabbage tomorrow with a hidden coin for prosperity. I don't do the black eyed peas because no one here will eat them lol. I'll probably fix a big pot of pinto beans with bacon to go with the cabbage.

Oh dear, my plain old beige just won't do?
It's perfect for wearing under white though, at least that's what my Mama taught me.

We will be having friends around for a braai (BBQ) and then staying awake until midnight for a glass of bubbly.
Until then - Happy New Year everyone!

    What, no purple? :dance

The only tradition I have is to watch the Tournament of Roses parade on New Year's Day. I haven't missed a year, except tomorrow I'll only be able to watch part of it due to my daughter's skating gala. Sigh.

Can't type too much as I'm on th iPPad which is actually a mini & keyboard does not agree with arthritic hands, but I had never seen the examples Julie posted but we have traditions in South America, in Brazil most people wear white clothes for NYE but the yellow knickers (pants) are meant to bring prosperity..money, jobs, good luck I general....the party at Copacabana beach in NYERERE is amazing and un describable... Though you may be able to see it these days with You Tube....

As for tonight, I'm on pjs too @Lindzee !!!!!!
