I've got the OCT & NOV recommendation on reserve at our library so will read those early in the new year.

I've got the DEC book "Dear Wife" but probably won't get to it til the end of the month. This wkend (or sooner) I'll finish off "Olive, Again" and throughout the rest of the month I'll read a couple of Christmas cozies - Debbie Macomber "Christmas Tree Lane" and Nora Roberts "All I Want For Christmas". I like Xmas related stories over the holidays.

    What about you?

I am halfway through book #183 for 2019: "Girls of Storm and Shadow" or something like that

I also have The Starless Sea from the library currently, so I hope to finish that.

There were some other library books i have on hold that i think I'm going to suspend for the new year. I just don't think i can handle more books right now. But i love audiobooks, so maybe i will. Idk. :beat

I am trying REALLY hard to plow through a few more books to finish my Goodreads goal for the year. :giggle I'm not on pace to finish it and it'll be the first year since I started setting goals there that I might not finish. I joined a IRL book club and something about that has put me in a little bit of a slump. I usually like the books we read, but something about "assigned" books feels like homework sometimes. I'm almost finished with Octobers IRL book club book and that was has been taking me FOREVER! (The Hangman's Daughter) Then I'm going to read the November book too (Lillian Boxfish Takes a Walk). I hate starting a book and not finishing it. Then I'll start on the Dear Wife book for here. I'm looking forward to that one. :agree

I've picked up January IRL book group reads to get started on: Professor Chandra Follows His Bliss, When Breath Becomes Air, My Own Words by Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine. I'll be reading lots of light stuff too. I like Mary Balogh's Christmas short stories.

I read a long and actually informational book (though fantasy fiction) recently called The Priestess and the Dragon. Insight into Japanese myth/folklore and other creatures. Just a story/mystery. It was a long read, and I had to take time to learn a little too. Definitely more than the usual fluff I read. I have the second one in the series to read soon.

After that I read a whole series by Annabelle Chase about paranormal simple mysteries with strong women characters, and some fun on the side. Warden of the West (3 books, Sentry of the South (3 books), Enforcer of the East (2 books) and now I'm on Keeper of the North (also 2 books) .... I flew through these in less than 2 weeks.

I think I'm at 116 for the year. That will pry end up around 120. Less than previous years, but that was my choice to try to read outside of my fluff reading and into more genre's and subjects.

Just finished A Single Thread by Tracy Chevalier and before that was The Dutch House by Ann Patchett. I'm currently reading The World That We Knew by Alice Hoffman.

I'm still in the middle of The Count of Monte Cristo . . . hope I finish it before the end of the year!

I haven't updated Goodreads this year. I really need to do that!

I'm finishing up The Giver of Stars by Jojo Moyes. I'm shy on my goal this year at goodreads too- we were just so stinking busy with kids' stuff this year- I'm going to keep my same goal for next year & try to get to it! ;)

I'm also short on my Goodreads goal this year. I'm currently reading the Year One trilogy by Nora Roberts (dystopian) and also have The Starless Sea and The Great Alone in at the library. I really would like to get all these finished by the years end.

I'm waiting for our library to get the third book in the triology. I've put a pre-hold on it. Love that series.

I'm a very fast reader. I used to have issues reading as a child. After working with a reading specialist, if it's a subject I like, I devour books! By choosing books out of my usual, I'm slowing myself down, and finding books I wouldn't have otherwise looked at!

i'm about 50 pages from the end of The Eye of Minds
    [IMG]
    - i'm reading it b/c DS read it and made me get the rest of the trilogy after he read all the Maze Runner books so i figured it was going to be as good but it's been a bit 'meh' in comparison - too much computery jargon and lots of random Capital Letters on seemingly normal words because they are Important in their virtualWorld and it's slowing my reading way down and i'm not fast these days anyway.

and i've been audio'ing The Light Between Worlds
    [IMG]
    - i was sucked in by the cover art, and it sounded like a Narnia kind of story and it is, but i'm not loving that really either - so it's a bit of a lack luster end to this decade of books for me :-/

I've been taking a long time to finish Becoming by Michelle Obama. It's interesting, but not a gripping page-turner and I don't have a lot of free time. My drives aren't long enough to want to listen to audiobooks either. I would hate consuming books in 15 minutes snippets. That's why I listen to more podcasts and watch more YouTube than I read. Podcasts are a good length for my car drives and often in the late evening I'm too tired to read and prefer to just watch a video or two before going to sleep.

I'm 2 books behind on my Goodreads goal of 19. I think I'm still going to make a 2020 goal of 20 though. It just seems right. :lol

I just finished the new Ann Cleeves one The Long Call. It's a new series set in Devon and while I found it a slow start, it picked up and has much promise for future books .

I'm now reading Patti Callihan's Becoming Mrs. Lewis. For whatever reason, I've never read any C. S. Lewis but reading about her path should give me a nice spiritual boost this holiday season. Maybe it will get me to read some of Mr. Lewis' works too. Long long ago, I used to read a lot of theology books...

As for Goodreads, I passed my 100 book goal and at 110 now, all future reading goes into 2020!! With Dick's cancer I had plenty of time to read this year. He has been declared cancer free by his oncologist so I hope we can resume some more activities that do not include the medical profession.

eta: this is also the time I read cookbooks, and I do mean read. I rarely cook the recipes so I'm usually no help determining if they're good or not. I like stories about the cooks and their lives and why they started xyz restaurants, bakeries etc. I'm reading Zingerman's Bakehouse and the Magnolia Cookbook. Lots of fun an no calories!

I set a goal for 30 read books at Goodreads this year and I am on book 24 now but I am ok with that. Normally this wouldn't be so difficult but I have been slacking this year. I am currently reading The Surgeon by Tess Gerritsen and I have about 50 pages left.

I read Mr. Dickens and His Carol over Christmas. My husband gave it to me for Christmas Eve and I finished it last night. It was just perfect!!! I'm reading Cilka's Journey now.

My Goodreads goal was 50 books this year and I think I'll finish out at about 67 or 68 books read...I would love to make it an even 70, but I don't think that's going to happen.

I bought Charlotte’s Web at a thrift store the other day so I need to finish that. :swingin

I didn’t start anything new audiobook-wise because nothing I have left is interesting or is way too long for these last few days. (I have subscription so new books in two days!)

Update since Post Number 13! I finished Michelle Obama's book and then in the last few days I read The Reminders by Val Emmich, a wonderful story about a girl with a perfect memory who helps a man who recently lost his husband and he helps her write a song for a contest. :heartslub
