Welcome to Day 11 (!) of our We Are Storytellers event here at TLP! For our second challenge this week we are continuing to focus on telling our story through words - we're looking at using prompts, word strips, or word art to guide and focus our journaling.

Not everyone is comfortable telling their stories. For some, getting that story out and on the page is a real struggle. And even for those who normally find that words come easily, there are times when you run up against a mental block and just cannot figure out what you want to say. It is times like these that word-based elements can be a real asset.

Using prompts, word strips, or word art not only adds interest and dimension to your journaling, they can also make a good story into a great one. But more than that, they can help overcome writer's block and form the backbone of your page. They become the creative sparks that help focus your thoughts and feelings that you want to get down on paper. They can add value, be an inspiration, provide a vision, or trigger your own creativity in new and unique ways. Sometimes they are simply a friendlier way to jump into writing.

Here are just a few ideas for adding some interest by using word-based elements:
    1. use prompts to guide and structure your journaling
    2. use word strips or word art inline with your journaling
    3. add a list of word strips or some word art to support your journaling

As always, these are just suggestions, and if you have a creative way that you like to use for prompts or other word-based elements to tell your stories, feel free to show it off.

    Here's your challenge:
    * Use one or more word elements (prompts, word strips, or word art) to help tell a story.
    * Scrap them in a layout that has at least 50% of any TLP products. Photos are optional since the words should be the primary storyteller.
    * Post your layout in this thread and in our gallery.

The deadline for this challenge is September 1st at 11 pm EDT.
The Pollys will choose one layout as our Storyteller Standout from this challenge for a $10 prize.
One random layout will receive a $5 participation prize.

And here are some pages from the Pollys to give you a little inspiration!

    From Keela:
This amazing page shows off a list of word strips supporting her journaling. Keela used the word strips to list all the qualities that she admires in her husband.

    From Anne (Anneofalamo):
Anne also used word strips, but sprinkled them amongst her photos for a wonderful carefree effect.

    From Jenn (Jenn McCabe):
Jenn created a large word art piece to form her title and then used word strips inline in her journaling to add both emphasis and interest.

    From Dalis:
Dalis used word strips and phrases as well as word art blocks to great effect, adding interest all over her page. In this case, the word elements form her journaling rather than just support it!

    From Amanda (amandac):
Amanda made great use of various pieces of word art to help focus and direct her journaling.

    From Karen (karen perry):
Karen uses the word strips as prompts for her journaling but they also make such a nice design feature bordering the journaling + photo cluster.

    From Katherine (Katherine B):
Katherine pulled everything together in a masterful way -- using word art, a journal prompt and word strips to tell her story and because of it, her page has so much depth! She used the We Are Storytellers kit to make her page.

And here's my page, using the Getting Started - Journal Prompts by Sahlin Studio to form the backbone of my page. I had these photos, I knew I wanted to scrap them, but I didn't know what I wanted to say. The journal prompts gave me the idea (5 things that make you happy) and helped shape the whole design. I also supported the journaling with some word art (always original, one of a kind) from One of a Kind Elements by Pink Reptile Designs.

If you need a little shopping inspiration, here are a few suggestions:

Journal prompts, for both pocket or traditional scrappers:

Word strips to use either inline with your journaling, or as an accompanying list to your story:

Word art to satisfy any need:

And happy scrapping, I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with! :)

I use word art as my title a lot but have not incorporated it so much into my journaling. Can't wait to try.

I have used this as my BYOC challenge, not sure if that is allowed? One layout for two challenges?
