Waffles | Pad Patter 8.24.23

I love waffles! So does everyone in my house. When my hubby and I started dating we visited his parents campground (they have a trailer in the same spot all summer) and his Mom made belgia waffles for breakfast and put pie filling and whipped cream on top. Yummy! My favorite is with cherry pie filling and my oldest son must have both blueberry and cherry and he "draws" the design of the american flag on top his waffle using the red from cherries, blue from blueberries and white from whipped cream. He still does that everytime I made those kind of waffles to this day. It always makes me smile.

My favorite way to have waffles is with cut up banana, walnuts, whipped cream and a tiny bit of syrup. Mmmm. Yummy!
How cute that your son still does that!

I love banana pancakes and nut pancakes but I've never tried them with waffles! Must try!

I used to love waffles but when I switched to low carb I stopped eating them. Now I make chaffles (keto) and pour sugar free syrup overtop or use as a hamburger bun.
Yep we've done chaffles. I've never tried them as a bun though! Good thinking!

I love frozen waffles with sherbet! You'll have to try it if you haven't already.

Waffle burgers and maple ketchup?! I'm intrigued!
Basically like maple syrup and ketchup mixed together ... and I've done sherbet and waffles we love our sherbet... the lemon is my favorite... or if you can find it watermelon

So funny that you posted this! Yesterday on my way home from work when I was talking to hubby- he said "Guess what today is?" I never guessed it was National Waffle Day! lol He is THE waffle guy. Like when we got married all his fraternity brothers gave us waffle makers as gifts since he made them all during college at his frat house.

Of COURSE we had waffles for dinner. He makes HOMEMADE buttermilk waffles all the time. He's now a waffle snob we say, since he only does homemade and got a very nice expensive waffle maker for his birthday last year that is like his 3rd child. We've even brought it on vacation with us... lmao! :giggle

My favorite toppings is cinnamon butter (his mom's specialty- just butter whipped with some cinnamon and a little powdered sugar) and berries. He usually makes me blueberry waffles with berries inside and on top. Because he is THE waffle guy- we rarely go out to breakfast, since his are almost better than any place we've been in the past. He's also similarly well known for his homemade pancakes. :rollin

We make homemade waffles all the time when we’re at the cabin and have extra time. Our favourite way is to have them with peanut butter, homemade fruit salad and maple syrup on top.

I haven’t tried it with lemon sherbet but I love it with orange.

Lucky you with your very own waffle guy! The cinnamon butter sounds like my kind of topping.

I’ve tried peanut butter and maple before, but now I want to try adding fruit too!

I have made eggs with cheese in ours too; we call them chaffles. My daughter hates the smell though haha
Omgosh, my son hates the smell, too. He complains about it every time. He says it makes him gag haha

I've got some frozen waffles in the freezer - ha! And plan on having a heavy breakfast of scrambled eggs, bacon and waffles in lieu of toast.

From time to time I like to have chicken and waffles for lunch or dinner. :drool

Last week I had leftover steamed cauliflower..
I used it in waffles. Almond flour, an egg, ground cheddar and ground mozarella, steamed cauliflower, a pinch of garlic powder, a pinch of onion powder .... and some freshly chopped parsley ... no salt - the cheese is salty enough and some ground black pepper...
It was delicious ...

Enjoy your delicious breakfast!

I can’t remember if I’ve ever had chicken and waffles…

Sounds like a delicious savory waffle Marijke.

I enjoyed waffles about once a week when I was growing up, because my Mom always made full breakfast feasts every weekend with pancake/waffle, eggs, hash browns, bacon/sausage. One of my few childhood memories is waking up to the smell of bacon cooking (more of a factual memory now; not a smell I actually like anymore).
I never got a proper waffle iron as an adult and didn't care enough to do so, but I made pancakes moderately often when my kids were growing up. It was a challenge though, because one of my kids is allergic to wheat. Also, over the years, I have come to think of waffles/pancakes more as a sweet treat than a good breakfast. I rarely ever have them anymore. My favorite toppings are fruit and maple syrup. I like to try putting fruit and nuts into the actual pancakes sometimes too.
I think I've made pancakes once this year so far. I have no idea when I last had a waffle.

I’m impressed your mom made full breakfast feasts every weekend! I’m not a big breakfast person so I never make them for my kids.

She was a more traditional homemaker that way. She didn't work outside of the house until I was in junior high in the early 1980's.

My mom was a traditional homemaker. She did work for about 6-9 months after marrying my dad (RN), but when she was 6 months pregnant with me she quit her job ... night shift nurse covering 3 wards. The hospital hired 3 nurses to replace her. Anyhow, she made us girls a full breakfast every morning ... mine in high school was scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, half a grapefruit and oj, one or both of my younger sister had pancakes and bacon. Mom use to keep Bisquick mixed up in a peanut butter jar in the fridge so she could just shake it up and pour. She also cooked dinner every night. On Sundays we would sometimes go out for lunch after church.
