Valentine's Day - what do you do?!

this thread is completely making me feel better! We hardly ever do anything for VD. Partly because my birthday is in November, then Christmas, then the boys' birthday is jan 10 and our anniversary Jan 18, so by the time Valentine's rolls around, we are kind of over the hype of stuff. I usually try to get him a card, but the boys were sick, i knew he was going to be studying all day (he is in med school), and he actually went to the store last night just to buy me a card and I was like, 'dude, I didn't even get one for you, save the four dollars!' So, he did. We didn't even do stuff for the boys, am I a loser mom? Their grandparents did stuff, i just don't want them to think that every holiday is all about getting them stuff...I don't know, it is hard being a mom sometimes!

So yea, we don't celebrate Valentine's Day until I pick up a card at Target. Then all hell breaks loose.

:rofl

It's good to know we're not the only couple who isn't into Valentine's!

I think us Brits (and Aussies) get off pretty lightly when it comes to celebrating special days, we don't make personalised Christmas cards and pretty much ignore Valentine's Day all together! Even if we do celebrate Valentine's here it's only for our significant others, no cards or gifts for the kids (or their classmates) and definitely no decorating.

Having said that, I'm envious of your Independence Day and Australia Day celebrations, we don't have a national day here that we actually celebrate!

It's kind of the same in Germany. No cards for the kids and no decorating. But, over the last five years that I have lived here I have definitely seen Valentines day become more popular. We don't celebrate it though. Just another reason to spend money. And lord knows we don't need more chocolate in the house. We are still trying to work through the 40 pounds still left over from Christmas. LOL

We don't really celebrate it either. We consider our wedding anniversary the day to celebrate our love for each other. =)
