vacuum?

I have a German Shepherd whom we affectionately call the German Shedder, so vacuuming is serious business at my house. I have a Miele Callisto and I adore it. It picks up everything on the first pass and has an amazing HEPA filter. It works great on tile and hardwood as well as carpet.

we bought an Oreck a couple of years ago and I really like it...my mom and mother in law both have them and I had used theirs. We ended up getting the cheapest version available which was still like $300, but I love that it is 8 lbs and does an amazing job...I am sure that I would like the more expensive versions even more, but this is what we could afford.

ETA: our house is tile everywhere except the bedrooms and I do love that we can go from rug to tile to carpet with absolutely no problems!

lol! i don't think i'll be much help here! i have a $40 special from menards or wal-mart or something like that. it's red. it works. that's all i know. it is NOT a super- heavy-duty-sucker-upper, and i have to make a few passes to successfully get the stuff up, but it still works okay... it was $40, so i don't have high expectations for it! :)

we have an oreck also.
i really like it.
it only weighs 8 lbs (the canister is separate)
at first i wasn't sure i liked that.
then i LOVED having the hose separate...cuz then i get to have help
cleaning the stairs and corners and baseboards by helping hands (the kids).
i saw the oreck pack at costco for around $300. -i believe it included the vacuum, canister, and something else...bags?
i dunno, my parents JUST bought that pack..
it's lasted us 5 years now.
we have lifetime warranty
and i take it in to our oreck store for a tune up every year.
it's very low maintenance.

yeah those kirbys....
my friend has one.
they are ugly as sin.
but work crazy good.
don't they suck up water too?

but they weigh a TON.

My husband is the king of outrageously expensive vacuums - we've had Miele canister vacs for years, and this last time he went with a Miele Salsa upright that's amazing for both our carpets and tile

woot woot! let's hear it in da house for da kirby! :luvya

bought ours in 1992. nothing but minor repairs and going strong.

they are heavy but now come with a motor. our across the street neighbor really did not like her mother in law. who would vacuum when she came to visit. girlfriend never clued her MIL into the fact that you could turn the motor on. heeeee...

i'd buy the kirby all over again. i would have spent the same amount on replacing a vacuum over 18 years that i did once. worth it.

I think ours (along with our washing machine) is about to commit suicide so I have been researching them, we have a good old bagless Hoover right now. I am thinking of getting a Dyson, we put all new floors in our house when we moved in so we have no carpet (we live in FL and have 4 small kids when we moved in the house had wall to wall white carpet with the exception of white tile in the kitchen and bathrooms..it was a total nightmare, we got the house for a steal so we knew we would have to replace all of the flooring) and they seem to have gotten good reviews for wood/tile flooring. I'll be keeping my eye on this thread though, I have heard of Kirby's but not the Orecks.

I have a Kenmore from Sears and it's pretty good. I don't love it, but it does a decent job. In order to really get the wood floors clean though, I have to use the floor attachment and the pull-out wand is just not quite tall enough so I end up with a backache by the time I'm done. We had a roomba before and I really liked that, but it just died on us one day.

My mom has a dyson and is always raving about it, but I just couldn't bring myself to shell out that much money for a vaccuum! (I mean, do you know how many digi kits $400 will buy? :D )

I have a Bosch. It's OK, it was free (my parents didn't need it anymore). I don't see how I could love a hoover though. Unless it came with a hot guy attached that would do the hoovering for me. That would be nice.

We have a Kirby! Bought it in 1997 and its still going strong (except for a few a minor repairs)! :)

Oh goodness! We had one of those growing up! We used it so much it died. My mo now has her grandmother's that was bought eons ago and still works like a charm!

I myslef have central vac, but not by choice. It came in our house... how I loathe that darned tubing... grrr... but it works...

I had a Hoover Windtunnel self-propelled for a lot of years, finally bit the dust late last year. We JUST bought another Hoover Windtunnel, it's bagless this time and not self-propelled. We only have one room with carpeting, so we don't take the vacuuming too seriously LOL Although we did drool over the Dysons while we were shopping.

We use the Roomba mostly but we have a Hoover that takes care of the stuff Roomba can't handle.

We have this Dyson DC25 bad boy. Really pleased with it. Works well on all floors and in animal hair suckage.
