Unplugged|Pad Patter 3.10

Both family vacations we took last year were far enough out in the country that no one got cell service while we were staying there.

We went into town and on the interstate to do various things during one vacation so we were able to stay in touch that way. The other vacation was just sitting at the lake cabin for 4 days so I was definitely unplugged then.

I don't mind being unplugged for a few days especially if both of my kids are with me. I'd probably get stabbity after a week or so.

I unplugged when we went to Scandinavia in 2016. But I really didn't have a choice because I didn't have an international plan on my phone! We were too busy playing tourist to spend time online, anyway. I much preferred it that way.

No, we don't unplug. We always buy a portable WiFi when we are overseas, often has better speeds than when we are at home. We use it to do research about where we are, maps and public transport options as well as last minute bookings, as we usually have a few nights unbooked when we leave so we can have some flexibility. My concentration levels vary as well, so all the books I pack usually remain unread and I happily watch junk Youtube instead...

Also one of the fun memories from our last trip was due to our son's access to the internet. The Bot written Harry Potter chapter had just come out, so our 14 yo read it out to us as we were driving. so funny. we were in tears and it was much quoted over the next few days. We all wanted to get a shirt with 'Hermoine has forgotten how to dance"on it - if you haven't read it -

I love the idea of unplugged but I struggle with it...

I'm never totally unplugged when we go away these days. Ten years ago, yes but not anymore. Even when we went to Peru, we had wifi at the hotel so I checked email morning and evening. I'm more unplugged from my phone than my iPad though. I rarely remember to have it on me at home, then when I go out it often needs charging! :huh
