Trick or Treat? | Pad Patter 10.31 woot

*sigh* I look forward to the day when I can sit on the porch, pass out candy, and ooh and ahhh over all the cute costumes. Here in about an hour I am headed out on my 26th straight year of taking one or more of my kids trick-or-treating. I even tried bribe the 11 year old into not going this year hahaha, he was not having it! We live in a subdivision that gets tons of trick-or-treaters, but our house gets very few. We live at the bottom of a pretty steep hill and I figure that no one wants to come down here because they don't want to climb back out :giggle My sister, on the other side of the subdivision gets upwards of 200 and we get maybe 5. I always by a ton of candy and end up giving 2 or 3 handfuls to any kids that come by.

There are no longer any kids in our neighborhood, so we don't pass out candy anymore. Both of my (adult) daughters wore costumes to work today. The teacher wore Harry Potter items that she got when we were in London and visited the studios there. She looked like Hermione. I couldn't figure out what the other daughter went as and I didn't want to act dumb and ask her.

No candy means I can't eat it all, so that's a win/win to me.

Haha Anne we've done that before.

We're going to my parents' trunk or treat then going around our neighborhood.

We don't have kids, so no trick-or-treating. We also only have a handful of kids who come by the house, and this year none at all so far!!

Our big Halloween thing is carving a pumpkin. This year we did a Minion. :)

we just finished - here in Texas it's rare for you to have to ring the doorbell. People sit on their driveways (often drinking beer) and hand out candy - and I won't even begin to talk about all the decorations. Maybe it's just our neighborhood but we end up with 100s of kids. We usually run out of candy :) Kids have fun though and it's fun to see all the costumes. Ghostbusters was a huge hit this year :)

@AnneofAlamo that sounds like a lot of fun! The street in behind ours has 3 people who do haunted houses to raise money for the local children's hospital. In that area houses get around 200 kids. DH (who takes the kids out) said one of the houses had a guy dressed up as dracula giving the adults shots of "vampire blood" (It was Jim Beam Whiskey). I actually live on the "main" street, and usually get about 10 trick or treaters (everyone skips us and goes straight for the haunted houses). But this year was a record breaker with 22 kids!

Our complex has an amazing trick or treating event. There are about 50 kids in th complex who get divided in groups of 4-5. And we all go trick or treating together - each group starting from a different apartment so that we all don't land up at the same place together!! It's a hoot, kiddo has a blast and I absolutely love it!! :)
I love that idea! So many condo/town home complexes are just dark on Hallowe'en. And It gives the kids a chance to get to know each other better.

This is the first year we've gone ToTing here in my hometown. Our one year move anniversary is this week.

We drove over to my sister's and BIL's neighborhood to ToT. My nephew decided he is too old to ToT but he came out with my kids & me and took his dog around in costume. It was fun & then we got to have Costco pizza & candy & brownies before we went home.

I also took the kids to Zoo Boo & my daughter's school's trunk or treat. My 2yo is going to be really sad that there are no more candy-getting opportunities until next year. :giggle

We went over to a friends house last night with three families total and all the kids are friends so they loved it. We picked up pizzas on our way and had a quick bite to eat before walking around their huge neighborhood. My oldest always gets bored after about 45 minutes and wants to just go home and play with his friends and he did the same thign again this year. :) they all were fine with that plan though, so we all wandered back to their house and played cards while the kids played outside. It was 60 degrees and gorgeous so for once we weren't all soaked and freezing at the end of trick or treating. It was great! :)

My oldest (he is 16) went to a party with his girlfriend- they dressed up as Sandy and Danny from Grease.
My middle (she is 14) went to a friends house to hand out candy- she dressed up as Violet from the Incredibles.
My "baby" (she is 12) dressed as a unicorn, and we went ToT'ing with her bestie, for the 4th year in a row. They were twin unicorns in long one-piece pjs from Target, and it was 80 here last night. After about 4 houses, the kids were moaning about the heat. Last year, it rained sideways and was nasty, so I was just glad for no rain. But, the heat was pretty miserable! We went around our neighborhood and the next one down from us (where my baby's bestie lives), and were back home in just over 2 hours. My husband stayed home to man the door, but said he only had maybe 50 ToT'ers. Weird!

This is our first Nevada experience, and it's similar to yours in Texas! So many people sitting in their driveways. And having been in Utah the last 3 years, having some parents walking around TOTing, with 40 ounce beers in their hand totally threw me off. And of course, knowing rain is unlikely, there were tons of decorations! One house had a dj, and a red carpet in their driveway. So you went up the sidewalk, got your treat, then danced your way down the driveway with the DJ and the crowd cheering you on. My kid loved it! It was a hoot!

We stay home and give out stuff. I try to plan for about 200 kids, but in years gone by we have run out because folks bring their kids to our locale for some reason. We live on a fairly large island, but there is still only one bridge on and off. It got so bad that no one could get home from work because of the traffic jam on Halloween. Finally some neighbors complained enough that the police stopped folks at the bridge and if they didn't live here they could not trick-or-treat here.

ohh I did for the first 2 years here (we came back to London from Brazil when Sarita was 5) then I had the operations and couldn't walk so the kids would go with Marga, my Spanish neighbor, or any of the mums, but I still kept dressing up and we would celebrate and have decorations, after 2005 Charlie (ex next door neighbor) was born so from then we would need nothing as they decorated next door!!!

our time here is 6pm to 8pm so we sit out on the front porch and handout candy. We had only about 15 by 7pm and no one was really around so we went in, but what I found so precious is my neighbor's little boy. He just turned 3... Last year we were in the UK and I am not outside very often so the little guy hasn't seen me that he can remember. He was a dinosaur, his Dad dressed as a Banana, Mom as a football fan.. Grandma joined in too as a Baseball fan. (Grandpa stayed across the street to handout Candy and watch the 3 month old newborn)... anyway little Dean came up with Mom & Dad and all of a sudden started getting upset hiding behind his Dad and wouldn't say Trick or Treat.. in that little boy voice he started saying he was shy and scared and was crying.. OMG I couldn't stand it.. he was so adorable! His Dad was saying say Trick or Treat and Thank you.. LOL .. he kept saying I'm Shy I don't want to! (We were the first house.. hope he did better after us, and I gave him almost half the bowl of candy before anyone got there.. hubby as like what?? LOL.. he thought Dean was cute too, and called me a softie!

oh and another we found quite interesting were these 2 little kids that looked like raccoons... big fluffy striped tails... the tail and a mask otherwise nothing really memorable about the costume or them, except that their Dad and THEIR CAT were accompanying them as they went door to door.. My husband who is not a cat lover was rather impressed with the cat as it would walk and then the kids would get to the house, the cat would sit at the end of the property with the Dad, by the curb watching, as the kids would go up to the house to get their goodies then the kids would return, the cat would wait until the kids got to the edge of the property. It would then turn around and start walking to go to the next house. The cat was not on a leash either.. The cat looked like the brown striped cat from HP that Mrs. McGonigall was (Animagus) and was really trained to walk and stop and wait .. so funny.. my husband said he was really impressed with that cat, & I giggled!

Our neighborhood is gated & all hills- so usually we just have neighbor kids or friends of neighbors who can get in! :) Last night we had around 30. I think that's about the perfect #- still fun, but not overwhelming! I also think that's why a TON of our neighbors do the FULL size candy bars too! I stayed home & handed out candy & pencils (I was the Tooth Fairy at the kids' school parties & made sure to tell everyone to brush & floss really well!) ;) My hubby took the kids & dog (she was chewbacca, kids were Luke Skywalker & Princess Leia) all around the neighborhood- even all the hills. They were exhausted! ;)

The cat was not on a leash either.

We have a neighborhood cat (she actually belongs to my next door neighbor) but she wanders & totally goes for walks with us & anyone around! She's the silliest cat! She's also a great mouser- so I'm 100% okay with her hanging around! ;)
