Halloween is finally here, my boys have been living in their costumes.
OUr town isn't a big door to door trick or treat..
we do trunk or treats
local churches and clubs have booths (cars or trucks) back up into spaces, with tons of candy. They decorate and give prizes. My oldest daughter is taking the boys. Me, I am gonna scrap!

Do you go out for the candy??
 
Trunk or treats always sound like so much fun!

Door to door is how things are done here. It's very strange in the city though trying to decide which house/building to go up to. Rule of thumb is if it has decorations, ring the doorbell, if not... skip it. Multi-unit buildings will generally have a sign letting you know which buzzers to ring.

Neither of my kids go out anymore. Clara and her friends thought they were going to last year, but panicked last minute that they were "too old". They ended up sitting on the front porch, carving pumpkins and handing out candy. This year they just made this their plan. They're friends from elementary and all go to different high schools now, so it's good for the neighborhood girls to still get together! This year they're setting up out back, we have a fireplace out there, so we'll get that going for warmth and marshmallow roasting. I bought a bunch of dollar store decorations for them to go crazy with too. We'll direct trick or treaters down our gangway to the back, so the girls will hang out there to carve pumpkins and pass out candy. Then they plan to come in fairly early to get in one scary movie before they go home.
 
We take the kids around the neighborhood. We know families on each of the streets, so the kids get to show off their costumes to their friends. It lasts about an hour and then everyone runs out of candy. We'll probably watch a movie and eat popcorn (and candy!) afterwards.
 
We live in a pretty big subdivision on the edge of town, with a lot of families and kids, and it seems like they are all out on Halloween. My mom comes to our house and hands out candy while we take the kids around. A couple of my kids' friends live in quieter neighborhoods and we invite them to come trick or treating with us.

We also do some of the sponsored "trunk or treats", where *we* are one of trunks and my kids are the ones that hand out. It's been a busy fall this year -- I'm not sure what made it different from any other year -- and we didn't do any of those this year.
 
We stay home and hand out candy - full size Hershey bars. It's a throw back to John's days trick or treating. There was one house that gave them out every year, and he always thought it was the coolest thing ever. I always worry we're going to run out, and then we have a ton left over.

This was the coolest house on the street when we trick or treated as kids, too! Full Sized candy bars! WOOT!

There's a comic about this and it's perfect... the reaper goes to take the lady's (Margaret) soul... and she hands him a full sized candy bar... he say's "No, I'm here for your.... Holy ****, full size Snickers! Never mind, Margaret, we're good!" Makes me giggle every time.


We go trick or treating in our neighborhood. We have a red wagon that becomes a candy cart and an adult beverage cart. We pass out candy as we walk since we are not home, and for adults we have a drink (or water if you prefer). It's usually fun, relaxing and a great way to interact with all the neighbors.

Around here it's door-to-door and we get about 150 kids. My hubs just went out to get some choc bars and candy. We always get more than we need b/c I would be mortified to run out and have to face the little ones with the news when they yell or knock on our door. So we normally have a small stash left over to munch on throughout the next week or two. This is the first time my hubs is getting the candy as it's usually me but since I've been so sick this last week, he went shopping. I'm curious to see what he comes home with. I'm guessing some of it will be Aero bars as that's his fave and he'll want to hand those out last so he can keep them LOL.
 
We got to a neighborhood that is one of the key areas for door to door trick or treating. It's one of the older neighborhoods with the victorian style houses. Afterwards, we'll go door to door in one of the newer subdivisions then catch a trunk or treat on our way home. Oh, and also stop by the haunted house event at the mall. That's our plan for tonight.
 
We have a great neighborhood for trick or treating. Friends of our always host a chili dinner in their yard and then we all walk around with the kiddos to collect candy. I usually take the younger ones home after just a few streets, while my older boys stay out longer with their friends. Trunk or Treats are popular here too, but our church does a fun halloween carnival instead so we do that usually the week before halloween and then do trick or treating on halloween night.

I've always wanted to hand out full-sized candy bars, but our neighborhood gets slammed with trick or treaters. I usually go through a 150 - 200 snack size candy bars each year. I also buy a bag of snack size skittles for all the kids with allergies.

We went to the ward trunk or treat on Saturday and tonight my 10 year old is going trick or treating with some friends. I'm hoping to go with her. I usually decorate BIG for Halloween, and hand out treats, but I'm not feeling great this year. I'll probably just put out the BIG blow up spider with a bowl of treats on the porch and call it good.
 
This is our first year not trick-or-treating - since my kids are both teens. We live at the end of a cul-de-sac and our neighbors who are at the start of the street set up a little party in their drive way. We all bring our candy bowls down there so the kids have one-stop-shopping for our street! We usually go down and hang out with our neighbors for a bit, drink some wine, admire the costumed kids that stop by. It's fun!
 
My DH will take out my youngest door to door trick or treating while my oldest is going out with a gang of friends (hopefully, he's left it pretty last minute to plan something). I'll stay at home and hand out the candy. I always worry we'll run out, but we never do.
 
We always take the kids out, even in the rain. Honestly, I'm tired this year & don't exactly feel like it. But, I'll end up going out, especially since we have the theme & everything. We don't ever get trick or treaters at our apartment. But, I have fruit snacks, stickers, pencils, lollipops, & spider rings just in case. It's all leftover from the bags I made for my kids' classes.
 
Our complex has an amazing trick or treating event. There are about 50 kids in th complex who get divided in groups of 4-5. And we all go trick or treating together - each group starting from a different apartment so that we all don't land up at the same place together!! It's a hoot, kiddo has a blast and I absolutely love it!! :)
 
Nope, nothing happening here in our neck of the woods. No tricking nor treating and the cats are cuddled up on the couch.
Delightfully peaceful.

Except the minimal calories. And getting to eat 2 or 3 different fun sized candy bars without feeling guilty about the amount of sugar. That's fun :-)

Mmmm. I want to come trick or treating in your neighborhood. Smarties, aeros, caramilks. Yum!

We will be out in the neighborhood. Well, more likely the neighborhood across the street. There's a few neighborhoods that all the kids go to, or at least all the kids from my neighborhood. We did 3 trunk or treats last week, and they were ok, but I don't like them. I miss the fun of walking around the neighborhood and seeing different kids and houses decorated. I'd rather they were just the carnival and party part, and skip the trunk or treat part.
 
We live in a condo complex where you would think kids would just love going from door to door as there are so many units in here. But we hardly ever get any trick or treaters at all. I usually buy candy but we get what we like to eat so we don't get stuck with stuff we don't care for as much. We sent candy packages to all of our grandkids this year. Two BIG bags of candy divided up into five small boxes. I threw in coloring pages and mazes and things I printed out for them, plus Halloween pencils...gotta have novelty pencils... and fun Halloween erasers, and some purple and orange plastic Halloween cups. By the time we had it all put together and paid for the postage it cost us an arm and a leg. But that's what Grandparents do, right? :)
