Tree Decorations | Pad Patter 11.26

20171125_154719.jpgHey! These look pretty much like the ornaments we are going to use this year. My daughter picked out these colors last year and I didn't think I would like it much. But I ended up loving it...a lot! Surprised me!

I also have a skinny tree and love it (move one chair and up the tree goes). I have a tree for me (I know the grandkids love it too); we do Christmas at my son's house so really no one else sees it but I just love the beautiful glow of the tree.

I am a little apprehensive on how our new dog will do this year. He definitely has a problem with wanting to mark his territory (even in the house) so I am concerned he will want to mark the tree. We are looking at doing some kind of little fence around the tree to keep him for getting to close.

We fill our tree with whatever we love. Some used to belong to grandparents, some signify occasions like our marriage or Raileigh’s birth or buying our house, some we have picked up on travels, some are kid made, and some we just love.

We have gotten a real tree for 8 years I think and I love it. This year, I accidentally picked a giant tree that we had to trim some off the top to fit (even with tall ceilings!). I don’t mind though because it looks so beautiful

I enjoy the glow as well. Good luck with the dog! My daughter is wanting to put up a fence because of the 1 year old LOL

It's beautiful!! I still have a couple of ornaments from my grandparents. It takes us so long to put them all on because we have to stop and talk about each one we pull out. Your fireplace is really pretty!

Thanks Jan! We just bought our house a few years ago and the fireplace and built in shelves are one of my favorite things in the house!

The ornaments that have been passed down are the really special ones. I had a bell that was my Granny’s that my mom gifted me when we got married. Our 2nd Christmas, our cat knocked our tree over and the bell shattered. I salvaged the tiny painted figure that rang inside the bell and still hang that on my tree because it makes me think of her.

Ours is more of a memory/mismatch tree. It makes my kids happy so I am happy. They decorated it all this year. My older girls also wanted to do the Christmas lights outside. It's not perfect...but they had fun doing it. I've definitely had to let go of some of my perfectionism just so the kids can enjoy things like this more.

I have a problem with collecting Christmas ornaments- so I have way too many. (Heaven only knows what my son will do with them when I am gone.) I decorate one or two large trees, one or two 5 foot trees, and a few 4 foot trees. I am cutting back this year (ha, ha) and only decorating a total of 6 trees, although one is only 2 1/2 foot so it doesn't really count. I do themes, and this year I am doing Silver and Blue, Treasured Memories- my favorite- it is a mishmash of all of my memory ornaments, Santa Claus, Snowmen, Disney, and Pooh and friends. I have boxes of ornaments that I am not using: I switch them out every couple of years, and it is like discovering new treasures that I forgot I owned.

We still don't have our tree up yet. I had to take my son to the dentist this morning, and this tree was in the waiting room.

We have two trees these days; an artificial one in the family room where we spend a lot of our time and a real tree on the main level. Both get decorated with a mish mash of decorations bought over the years. When our girls were small I started a tradition of buying them a decoration every year with the idea that they would have starter decorations with a history when they got their own trees. So a couple of years ago they both took theirs to use on their trees and I had to buy a bunch more decorations. This is last year's real tree. We haven't got one yet for upstairs this year.

makes the tree look like a unicorn exploded all over it
:compcoffee this is exactly me down to the coffee - lucky i didn't quite spray the computer like that though. I feel your pain about that purple colour - DD keeps putting those exact ones on my 'this year i want to try pastels with some gold' colour scheme tree and DS keeps adding pipecleaner candy canes is bright red - that and the stark white, almost blinding blue lights i bought in the after xmas sales last year (because just replacing the bulbs is nearly impossible these days ) and forgot about, are messing with my 'all is calm' plan - we've done 'all is bright and rainbow' the last few years and apparently i won't be feeling the 'all is calm' part while the kids live here (should have known really!)

We've had a memory tree until about 3 years ago when my Xmas OCD, as i think of it (could be more 'perfect catalogue tree ' jealousy!), really kicked in and the dozens of mismatched pre-school and kid made deco's got left in the storage boxes and i'm kind of #sorrynotsorry

I bought a super skinny tree last year - because I don't like to decorate Christmas trees! LOL! I have about 1 dozen odd ornaments on it - and 2 boxes filled with bulbs still in our storage area! I would probably not even have a tree if we didn't have grandbabies ... I hope that doesn't make me Gramma Scrouge!
Haha No way!! I have super skinny tree, too and I adore it! I got mine mainly because every other tree we've had, we have to move furniture and stuff out to get it in. With this one, no furniture moved! I got mine at Hobby Lobby year before last. My mom has an even smaller version of the skinny tree, and I love hers, too. I probably wouldn't have one if it wasn't for the kids and grandkids either...oh and DH, because he has a thing for them lol
for the last 3 at least years my fam has had a vase with bare branches on a side table, with a few baubles or ribbons tied to the ends and they call it the 'twig-mas tree', i think even minimalist people would decorate more; i can't imagine ever getting to this stage but my MIL and DH's family are the opposite and every nook and cranny has a xmas plush toy sitting in it and it is like a xmas cave of wonders - it feels like we go from one extreme to the other when visiting with family but i don't think they call my mum Nana Scrooge so don't stress!

I always have clear lights and silver/gold/white decorations with one color. For a few years it was burgundy and this year I switched to seafoam green which is a very subtle color. I'll be keeping my eyes open for a few decorations to coordinate with it.

Oooh that sounds lovely!

I think we might be getting a designer tree this year. Normally the kids get all the ornaments and shove them all on at random. My eldest has been inspired by the awesome displays at the 1940s Christmas we went to earlier. She's been busy making things to go on it that follow the ideas she's seen, and is now sifting through the existing ornaments to pick ones that will go with it and returning the rest to the box. I can't wait to see what she produces, but I think this is going to take a while yet.

Mine is kinda matchy! My family room is gold and red ... so the tree really matches that with some rustic style ornaments and a few more sentimental type ornaments.

I'm another one who has a lot of broken ornaments ... I'm not the best at wrapping/storing them!
