It seems like all the Facebook and Instagram feeds this weekend are pictures of food or Christmas trees! Seriously, people have some amazing trees! And some have several amazing trees! Our tree has been up for a few days, but we just got around to putting ornaments on it this morning. I like to think of my tree as a memory tree. There are ornaments on it that go all the way back to my childhood. It's a really mishmash of things and memories. Every year, my mother gets each of us an ornament that signifies something that happened in our lives that year...braces, driver's license, marriage, babies, graduation, sports the kids were in to...whatever. All of those go on the tree, with the exception of the ones that I have given my grown children for their own trees. So, while I admire the beautiful theme trees I see in photos, I really love my tree full of memories. It's fun to pull them out every year and talk about their significance.

That got me wondering... Do you have a themed tree with certain colors or ornaments or a certain style? Or are you a mishmash kind of person like me?

I had to get new ornaments a couple years ago (long story) so I let the girls pick them out...big mistake! They aren't Christmasy colors at all and makes the tree look like a unicorn exploded all over it LOL

I sure do miss my other set...red and gold with some brown thrown in.

This is our tree. I've ornaments on there from when I was a baby, and I've been adding to it ever since. I've slowed down on the ornament purchasing, though, just because I have so many! I actually purged a bunch from my collection last year, and I honestly can't tell you what the majority of them were!

Some years I've taken the simple route and just decorated with my Swedish ornaments. It's very simple with red/white/wooden/straw ornaments, finished with Swedish flag garlands. But this year we're putting most everything up. I'll post a pic when it's done. That's today's job!

LOL @ exploding unicorn!! They are fun colors!! My daughter used to have a pink tree in her room decorated in those colors!

I actually do a red/silver tree except for a few spun glass ornaments that I have gotten over the year. Alot of my ornaments got broken over the years (we had to store in the attic and it just got to hot and they broke) or the kids handmade ones got torn. I do most of my decorations in my living room all red/silver/green and then my kitchen is gingerbread. I also do snowmen in the bathroom.

I got a smaller tree and don't have room for all of them anymore. I've purged a few the last couple of years and given the kids some. I'll get a picture of mine at some point and post it.

Maybe you could do a special tree in a different room (if you have the space) for your girls and do a regular "Christmas" colors in your main room? My daughter does that with each child having a tree in their room in whatever color/theme they want and the main room is the "family Christmas tree".

I love red and silver!! The outside of my house is mostly in those colors. I've had quite a few break over the years, too, because I'm not so good with storage. I love the gingerbread idea for the kitchen! My mom used to do Santa in the bathroom and she had a seat cover that had Santa smiling on the top and when you lifted the lid he had his eyes covered lol.

We are sort of a hybrid of the 2! I love snowflakes- so much of our tree is snowflake themed with blues, pinks, purples & SPARKLE! However, I have many ornaments the kids have made over the years & others like 'baby's 1st christmas' and such events that go on there too! For now- the themed ornaments WAY outnumber the others so it still looks like a theme tree with a bit of 'us' thrown in! ;) I'll find a pic-

We have mishmash trees! Last year was our first year to have two trees. We had been putting up just one tree in the front window... but last year we decided that it would be nice to have the tree in the family room where we hang out. Well, when putting up that tree we found that about 2/3 of it no longer lit up, so Clara and Jeff went to get a new tree. Clara wanted a big fluffy tree, Jeff wanted a small skinny one.... so what did they come back with? One of each! lol! The big fluffy one is in the family room and has a mishmash of sentimental ornaments. We decided this year to make the front tree our travel tree. Our typical souvenir when we travel is an ornament, so we gathered those together and put them all on that tree. So, although it has a "theme", it is still a mishmash of different types of ornaments.

Haha! That's fun!!! What a cool idea to have a travel tree!!

I've thought about doing this! I'm keeping my eyes open for a small used tree for their room that will fit on their desk :) or maybe a small pencil tree that will fit in a corner nicely?

In a crazy after Christmas shopping experience almost 10 years ago, I got a second tree, so we have two. Plus my ornament collection was growing and trying to put mine and the kid's on one tree wasn't working any more.

The one in the living room front window, right next to my chair, is my tree. It has purple balls, lots of white snowflakes in various styles, silver beads, silver bow, silver ribbon, and clear lights. It also has all the ornaments that are special to me from over the years. The presents under it are for extended family and friends.

The kids tree is in the family room with red balls, red beads, and all the childhood ornaments. It has colored lights. This tree has our families presents under it. It is right next to the fireplace with the stockings.

The trees are both up but in various stages of decorating. Hoping to finish that up today. Then I can take pictures.

My Snowbaby ornament and figure collection is the curio cabinet so they are on display all year.

I don't even like trees that are all color coordinated! Our trees with mixed up ornaments collected over many years are much more interesting! Here's a photo of our tree last year. The oldest ornament is a Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer I made in 1980 from clothespins, fabric, google eyes, and a tiny red pom pom. A lot of ornaments are things my mom made over the years.

This was the first live tree I'd bought in many years. We have an artificial tree I've used most years since 2002. I'm thinking of buying live again this year.

I'd love to have the space to have another tree, but our house is too small, or we take up too much space or something lol. I bet the purple and silver is sooo pretty! Looking forward to seeing a picture!

I love it, Michele!! isn't it fun to pull them all out and talk about when they are from and what was going on? I have a stuffed crossed stitched mouse on my tree that I made in 1979. We used to have a live tree every year and went to artificial in 2010.

I bought a super skinny tree last year - because I don't like to decorate Christmas trees! LOL! I have about 1 dozen odd ornaments on it - and 2 boxes filled with bulbs still in our storage area! I would probably not even have a tree if we didn't have grandbabies ... I hope that doesn't make me Gramma Scrouge!

Haha No way!! I have super skinny tree, too and I adore it! I got mine mainly because every other tree we've had, we have to move furniture and stuff out to get it in. With this one, no furniture moved! I got mine at Hobby Lobby year before last. My mom has an even smaller version of the skinny tree, and I love hers, too. I probably wouldn't have one if it wasn't for the kids and grandkids either...oh and DH, because he has a thing for them lol
