So who still has their tonsils and adenoids? Mine are coming out Friday and I keep hearing horror stories about the recovery. Anyone have stories to add? )

Still have mine and so does my 20 yr old son. My daughter had to have hers out at age 4 ish because she kept getting ear infections. I hope all goes quickly and easily for you on Friday. The technology on this is SO much better now!

I still have mine... I had a horrible year when I was 18 and got tonsillitis every six weeks or so, but since then, I hardly had any problems.

Try to start drinking as fast as possible, ice is good and ice cream. We've adult patients with no problem at all and then there are others that thinks it's hard to start to eat but your throath starts to heal faster if you try to eat. If you cough you can get some icky stuff to spit out but that is also normal.

I had mine out at 14. I used to get strep 2-3 times a year and I've had it once in the 20+ years since I got them out. It was worth it. However, it was awful. The nausea from the drugs were the worst for me... I don't do well on pain meds. Throwing up + just having tonsils removed = not fun. If you can avoid the nausea, it will probably be pretty easy.

I still have both. Never had any issues & I hope it stays that way. Good luck to you! Eat lots of ice cream!

I had mine out in college and I'm not going to lie. It was pretty awful. It took me a good week before I could eat without wanting to cry and I have a really high tolerance for pain. Also, beware that you might swallow some blood during the operation and that will probably make you throw up. THAT was disgusting! They made me eat scratchy dry toast before I could take a pain pill and I thought I might die before I got that piece of toast down. Ice cream would have been a kinder. I told them I didn't need a pain pill and that I just wanted to go home, but they wouldn't let me go until I ate and took that pain pill. Stupid! I pray your surgery goes a whole lot better than mine and that you can come back here and call me a big baby! :)

Still got mine grew out of tonsillitis when I was a child, don't think they take them out much here now

Everyone here still has them, although they always used to threaten to take mine out when I was a kid. I was actually at "one more infection and they come out" at one point. Not sure how I avoided it.

Today there are super great medicine against the nausea so you don't feel so sick when you wake up. Eat a lot of ice cream :)

don't get frozen fruit pops...they irratate. We all loved PUDDIng pops, they were smoother than ice cream. One day really not feeling to great, relax, 3 days recovery. Don't push it, and no MORE strep throat is so so so worth it! (almost never)

I have mine - never had any issues... Hope it all goes well for you!

I have mine.

My 3.5 year old grandson had his out. He had some issues post-surgery because of a crazy nurse, but other than that, his recovery was pretty good. He had a peanut butter sandwich for dinner that night. :)

Good luck!!

I still have mine and so do all of my kids. But I will be praying that all goes well for you tomorrow!

Well, it's done now. :) waking up was pretty horrid, but after some good drugs, things were better. I'm pretty uncomfortable and taking pain meds round the clock, but I don't think it's been quite as horrible as I was led to believe. I do have a pretty high pain tolerance and have had multiple big surgeries so maybe that's helping me with this.

Oh good. I'm glad it wasn't as bad as you thought. I hope you feel better fast. :)

Totally spoke too soon! The first couple of days were fine, but I've been absolutely miserable days 4, 5, and 6. Definitely underestimated how tough recovery would be!
