So how do you keep track of books you want to read? And do you have any secret sources for finding out about new books you might want to read? Reading recommendations? Book lists? Book clubs/groups? Cruising book store aisles? Libraries?

I have quite a to-be-read list at the moment. There are several hundred on my Goodreads list and on my different library accounts (city and county library and e-library) and then I have a bunch of books on my Kindle and upstairs in my "library" that are waiting to be read, and I have a bunch of scribbled titles on post-its around the house as well. I need to consolidate all of my lists. :dizzy I went to the library yesterday to pick up *one* book (the last in a series I didn't realize was a series until I came to the end of the first book :giggle) and I ended up leaving with an armful of other books I saw while I was trying to find the one book. I have 23 checked out (physical books) at the moment and a few others checked out as ebooks. I think I might have a bit of a problem.

What about you? Where do you find your "must read" books? And how do you keep track?

Good question. I haven't read non-fiction in so long I don't know where to start.

I keep a wish list on Audible and Amazon. It's pretty long :)

I follow you on Goodreads :giggle and then add them to my "to read" list.

I use Goodreads. But I have to admit, reading does not get near the attention from me that it used to! Right now most of my reading comes from reading children's books to my daughter (would anyone like me to recite "Go Dog Go"? It's a favorite of hers right now); reading something for my own pleasure is pretty rare. I'm very slowly making my way through the Game of Thrones series, reading and watching the show simultaneously. Other than that, most of my "free time" is spent trying to catch up on scrapping. Usually scrapping wins over reading.

I just got a kindle and have a tonne of books on there already. I have actually started using my Goodreads account in order to get these kindle books on my bought to read shelf (along with whose actual books I still have and not got around to reading yet). I wanted a way of reading the book blurb when deciding what I wanted to read on my kindle next and I couldn't find a way of doing that on the kindle book edition itself (maybe there is a way and someone will enlighten me).

As for finding new books, both Goodreads and Amazon send lists based on your reading history. Also I check out the kindle bargain section and if I read something there I like I can add to my want to read list by adding more from the same author. I do like series so if I have a bunch of the first in the series to read and those that grab me the rest of the series will go on my want to read shelf too.

I also use the book forums on the scrappy boards to add to my list too.

ETA I just watched the Jack Taylor series on Prime but it only covered the first so many books and I can't see anywhere that there are plans to do the rest, so I have added the additional books onto my want to read shelf too as the last one left on a cliffhanger.

There just doesn't seem to be enough time between work and scrapping! I do try to read during my lunch break, but, well, DD's introduced me to games on the kindle .... such a time sucker I should resist.

Scraps of paper or emails from here and there, but it sounds like I need to follow Kimberlee on Goodreads!

I used to have a list on word, but never got to read them, it frustrated me, so I deleted it...
Boy, did I regret that choice!!!!!

NOw, I have a list on goodreads only, but to be honest, I do not use it much and pick what I see....

Bookbub has been my downfall. Once I finally made the complete switch to electronic books I just have em all in my iPad. I've even started getting electronic copies of the technical books I use at work. I carry around my entire library in my bag. I do have favourite authors and Amazon reminds me when one of them has a new release so I can pick it up. I don't really find one site less expensive than another so usually go to Amazon, but bookbub offers an unlimited selection from Amazon either very cheap or free.

I have a LONG list on Goodreads that I add to faster than I can read books off of... :giggle

I don't really keep track of the books I want to read. There are just so many out there. I do keep track of the books I've read. I really need to utilize Goodreads.

I use goodreads to track what I've read or want to read. My list is always growing but rarely shrinking :D I have quite a few scrapping friends and IRL friends on there that read a ton. I'm always getting recommendations from them. I also recently have started watching a few booktube channels. Lots of recommendations on there that are more recent releases.

I didn't realize there were booktube channels. Man... I could be in serious trouble.

My favorite is Fox in Sox. And I wish I was able to listen to books... so I could scrap and "read" at the same time, but my attention span is too short to listen.

LOL. You're probably going to hate me because I just added 200 other books and now have over 700 on my to-read list. :/

Good question. I haven't read non-fiction in so long I don't know where to start.

I am just so happy to be done with school that I'm on a total fiction reading kick the past few weeks. I keep trying to get my DH to read fiction, but he's stuck in non-fiction land. I read non-fiction much slower, so I save those for days when I have quiet (which isn't often).

After thinking about the whole thing, I spent a couple of hours on Sunday combining my to-read lists from the various libraries (city, county, county e-library, and state e-library), a text document from the computer, the books on my Kindle I haven't read yet, and my Amazon wish list onto my Goodreads. Even with reading 50+ books a year, I'll never be able to finish my to-read list because I am constantly adding to it.

But I had to figure out some sort of system because I ended up reading The Gods of Guilt again this past week (skimmed it really) because I hadn't been keeping track of books I'd read in the past year, so I kept thinking it seemed familiar, and then I realized that I had read it. Doh! Sometimes I think Amazon is evil and is taking over the world, but then I just shush myself because I'm so addicted to them and can use Goodreads and it makes life so much easier.

So is there a thread around here already that shares everyone's Goodreads links so we can follow? I'm not sure how to find everyone.

gonewiththewind70 or Cheryl Ashcraft on Goodreads

i just friend requested you on GoodReads Cheryl.
I add books there like it's going out of style too. As for really choosing what next, i scroll thru what's already on my e-reader when i finish a book and read a few pages of whatever i find until i find something interesting and engaging, and depending on what i know i have coming up that week, i might even judge a book on it's length alone and just skip right along til i find something short-ish. And I hate starting books that i know are part of a series if i'm going to have a busy week...

so I used to use Good Reads quiet a lot when I wasn't scrapping as much, when they first started, I went and try adding all the books that had marked me as a teen and onward....
Then life got complicated and I forgot about it, also the email I'm in there was hacked so I left it there.....
I don't look at books much because I can only afford the 99pence or under in Kindle, and even so, if you are not careful, you spent £10 in 3 days...and we have a free local library...which really on my situation is the way to go, but as Kindle has a lot of 40pence books and even free ones, I read those..some of them turn ok.

Now Sarita gave me 3 books for my birthday, so I started reading one.
I'm loving it so much, I went to Good reads to share...and to my surprise...so many of my friends have read it!!!!!!
not sure if you (Kim & Jan) had it to read or read it already? my memory is bad, even though this was last night LOL

I'm loving the book, and as I haven't watched Gone Girl (apparently is compared to that?) no problem for me!!!!!

it is called The Girl On the Train by Paula Hawkins
http://www.amazon.com/The-Girl-Train-Paula-Hawkins/dp/1594633665

Another Goodreads fanatic here - I'm mrs2a50 there too, if anyone wants to follow me. I typically watch for those readers who I know have similar tastes as mine, and if they add something, I typically add it too. I also periodically go through the Amazon Kindle books new release list and add from there.

Also, I have my kindle sorted into folders by genre, and then I also have a folder of "must read" that has a mix of genres, but contain books that I know I really want to read, either because they're by a favorite author or someone highly recommended it.

see, I think this is the reason I would like a new Kindle..... mine is 2011, doesn't have much, no net connectivity even though it has 3G...it had the net browsing as a trial thing at the time, but now is gone that feature...I have no clue how to organize by folders, then when I want to look for something it drives me mad, as all books are together...what I read or didn't...and my memory is so bad I end up reading something I read 3 months ago...until I get to page 150 and it seems familiar...and I realized I read it :(

Also, the new generation Kindle s have graphics, which is the way I can remember what book I read when it was on paper...the cover reminded me...I know it may sound dumb, but I have a neurological problem which randomizes my memory and makes it act really weird, so I use some aids the clinic gives me to recall stuff ....
