Today is the last working day before Christmas.

Do you take time off for Christmas & New Year's?

Traditionally in New Zealand quite a few businesses and people take from now until Jan 8th off, others only take the holidays off or if you work in hospitality or retail like my mum does her work is only closed on Christmas day. She has lucked out this year though due to her normal days off to get today through to the 26th off with only one day of paid leave.

As I don't work, I don't take time off in a traditional sense but I do ease off any job hunting I do over the next couple of weeks while everyone is on holiday. My aim is to restart job hunting again on January 8th.

DH is taking time off because it’s “use it or lose it” time.

I don’t work but I do get time off from coaching over Christmas break which is nice.

I am retired but i always worked Christmas (other than the holiday) to allow coworkers to have time with their families.. i always took Thanksgiving week (Nov) as that was the holiday i traveled to spend that with my Dad.

Happy Holidays everyone!

I always worked Christmas (other than the holiday)

I did that too back when I was working in a call centre that was only closed on Christmas Day - I think one year I was rostered on for like 10 or 12 days straight over Christmas/New Year's - the bank account sure liked that!

Yes, I have to take paid leave, but I finish today and go back on 3rd (4 days paid leave). I am so ready to switch off!

Yes I was a supervisor for a call center/Customer Service. Overtime was lovely for sure!

Many businesses close between Christmas and New Year. This year though, our President made the 15th a public holiday (because the Springboks won the rugby world cup) and so many folk are on leave from the 14th til the 9th of January.

Teachers -- back in southern CA where I taught in the 90's and here in VA where I work now -- get two weeks off. This year, in my county, it's December 20 to January 3.

In my previous job with the USPS, delivering packages, I only had to work on holidays and Sundays (plus I chose to work two weekdays regularly). However, though I did work Thanksgiving, I ended up not having to work Xmas that one winter I was at that job.

For my job before that, in a stage theater box office, the theater was closed on Xmas of course. But I continued my regular schedule otherwise (which was work on Monday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday).

For the 19 years before that, I was always fully present every holiday as Mom. :D

I just get Christmas Day off, although if Christmas Eve falls on a weekday our office closes at noon. I've off on New Year's Day too.

2021 and 2022 I took the week between Christmas and New Year's Day off b/c I had "use it or lose it" vacation time. This year I managed to use all my vacay time before the end of the year.

We got out much later than we usually do for our winter break. Yesterday was our last day and we are out until January 8, so 2 full weeks. Usually we get out somewhere around the 18th-20th and go back the 3rd or 4th. It was more stressful this year getting everything ready, but I know I'll enjoy it after Christmas!

David's first day off was 12/15 and he doesn't go back until 1/8. It's a combination of holiday days, normal Fridays off and paid vacation. He is a happy camper.

I always save enough vacation days so I can have the time off between Christmas and New Years. I love it! My last day was 12/21 and I'm off until Jan 2nd.

It’s a good thing I didn’t plan to take this week … it’s been absolutely crazy busy in the office! Things should slow down next week once I get the informational letters out to all of our corporate clients re: the corporate transparency act taking effect January 1st.

I'm newer to my job so I only had a couple days off!! I feel like I need a vacation after our holiday weekend though.
