Time Change | Pad Patter 11.5

I thought it was neat when Indiana started changing time when I was in my 20s but now it's a drag.

My husband AND my 8yo both took an almost 2 hour nap this afternoon! It was crazy.

My ex-in-laws lived in Indiana for awhile years ago and half the year they were on the same time as us and half the year they were an hour behind. It was confusing to keep up with when trying to decide when to call them lol.

Our daylight savings changed over a few weeks back at the beginning of October (I think), and we are still feeling the pain. Our days are getting longer anyway, heading into Summer, but the kids are awake at the crack of dawn, prior to 6am, yuck! AND they get frustrated because there is still sun when they are going to bed at night!!
I do love how much I can get done during the day though.

@IntenseMagic, when I was growing up, I had a set of grandparents who lived in FL and the other set who lived an hour west of us so I always thought of us being half of the year on 'Grandparents [Last Name] Time' and the other half of the year on '[Other] Grandparents [Last Name] Time.' :)

One plus to living in Arizona - no time changes!
Not for you, but the rest of us have to try to remember which time zone Arizona is! Are they the same? Or ahead of us?
Now you are ahead of me.

Yes! This is why (contrary to everyone else, Sorry!) I'd rather just stay on Standard Time, not Daylight Time.

Even if it does mean my sunset time tomorrow is 4:40pm! @Tree City

I seriously do not understand the fuss. I stayed up super late (yay for the excuse), slept late on Sunday and that was it. My body is completely fine with it. I have colleagues who are "off balance" for weeks! The complaining and sighing from them is what makes me frustrated.
Do you all never travel? How do react to the time changes then?

And yes, it's annoying that it already gets dark at around 4, but at least it's light when I get up.

The actual time change itself doesn't bother me at all either way, even though I have friends who say it does. I just feel more energized in the day light, and the evening is when I need more energy since I work all day. I like to do things outdoors and have to run all my errands in the evening, and that's just more difficult to do when it's dark. I get up at 5, so it's always dark when I get up lol Not much I can do with that extra day light in the morning when I'm driving to work :)

And I really don't walk around complaining about it all the time. I would get on my own nerves lol. But my mood will lift when it changes back for sure!

@Chippi and @bestcee My kids have never paid attention to whether it was light or dark outside. My daughter would sleep no matter the time and my two boys have always had more energy after dark! Not sure if that makes me lucky or unlucky lol.

@berniek Yes, i travel or did travel a lot and one Ambien solved the jet lag issue each way. I never thought of doing that with the time change here but then it doesn't really affect me in the fall. We did have dinner a little earlier yesterday because ...it got dark and my mind said go cook. Fortunately, Mr. R will eat anytime I put food on the table.

I really don't think we have need for the time change any more. i don't see a lot of people going out as farmers in this area these days.

I don't dread this fall time change as much as the one in the spring. It seriously takes me two weeks to not feel like a zombie after that one. My body KNOWS that you messed with the time and doesn't like it. I did wake up an hour before my alarm went off this morning, because again my body knows that you messed with the clock. Lol. I HATE it getting dark by 5:00 because as soon as it gets dark I feel like it's bedtime! It's a battle of wills just to get doing anything after dinner because my eyes want to close with the sun. :giggle

Both time changes are so hard for me to adjust to. Ugh! I fell asleep at 7:00 last night and had to go to bed because I was just useless after that.

This morning my son was in a terrible mood because his alarm went off at 5 and I told him to go back to sleep (he's an early bird and we forgot to change his clock yesterday). He said he woke up at 5 yesterday and liked doing that...I told him no way were we going to make that a regular occurrence!

Lucky... definitely lucky!! Bahaha!! My kids suck at sleeping at the best of times, so they really really suck on changeover!!! :giggle:giggle

I think daylight savings should be the standard time and abolish the time change. I’d much rather have more light in the evenings. I too get more tired and want to go to sleep when the sun goes down.

Technically, we can't, as not all of the world observes DST. We have to remember there is other countries besides us :giggle

Move to AZ!! Not only will you have 365 days of sunshine, but you will NEVER have to change your clocks!! The ONLY exception to this is if you live on the Navajo Reservation....but there might even be exceptions to that rule too, IDK.

I grew up with 2 clocks in our house. We called it "rez time" and "Page time" (for Page, AZ because that is where we went to high school). :giggle My mom, to this day, still has 2 clocks in her house for this reason as home is on DST and Page (where we go for groceries, school, errands, etc) is not on DST.

Speaking as a night owl, standard time is the pits. The time change in the fall starts my descent into SAD as it gets dark so early in the day. I was pretty much working during the daylight hours with maybe an hour of daylight when I got off work. So my only time to actually enjoy the daylight was on weekends.

Now that I am retired, this may be different since I don't have to stay cooped up during the daylight but I still despise standard time!

Living in farming country, I see farm equipment on the roads all the time. Even last week before the time change there were farmers out working at 6:00 at night when it was getting dark.

I love the time change in the fall and DETEST IT in the spring! It really messes with my insomniac brain. It should not be bright and sunny outside at 9pm!!

So...I'm very happy when the time goes back to normal in the fall. I wish DST would go away altogether. But don't listen to me...I'm one of those weird people that get SAD in the spring and summer when most everyone else that gets it does so in the winter.

Not sure if that makes me lucky or unlucky lol.
Lucky! I hate arguing with my {5,6,7} year old that I don't care if it's still light, it's {7:30-8:30pm}, you are going to bed!

i don't see a lot of people going out as farmers in this area these days.
It's actually a myth that it's for the farmers. It started in WW1 as a way to have people light their houses less, and conserve energy. And then , for whatever reason, the barbecue and candy lobbyists have lobbied to make it longer (it's no longer April-October) and to keep it. Farmers have requested to get rid of it.
When I lived on the farm, the cows didn't care if the clock changed, they still wanted to be milked at what time they thought it was!

I grew up with 2 clocks in our house.
How interesting.
When DH was serving a church mission, he had one town that didn't observe DST just outside of Chicago in Indiana. And they were late or early a lot of time for that town!
