The best camera you have is the one in your hands......

Thanks for the reminder! I always feel guilty not using my expensive camera more, but the reality is- I hate lugging that thing around. I love love the clarity and sharpness of my DSLR, but I kind of like the faded/grainy/washed out post processed look, so I'm happy with my iPhone pics. I took this pic with my iphone of my daughter this summer at a restaurant and it is one of my fave pics of the year. I even printed and framed it!

Absolutely Kelly - and I'd much rather take a photo with my phone than miss it completely. The other thing people don't realize when they say "if I only had XYZ camera ..." is that a photo is amazing because of the photographer, and some post processing. No camera will give you the perfect shot if you don't know how to use it

Yes, yes!!

I am an equal opportunity camera lover. My DSLR, my iPhone, or my little P&S (though I rarely use it) - I use them all and incorporate them all in scrapping. Though I am usually partial to photos taken with my DSLR, I do love iPhone pictures too.

I guess I am the only one who does wait for the perfect shot. I JUST take pictures of my family. I don;t do elegant, fancy or photo shoots. I guess I prefer to have my family be MY family. Dressing them up in little hats and having them all smile, just really isnt my family LOL

I've always thought along the same lines as Julie - that phone pics just can't compare to my DSLR, but I have to say that while the quality can't compare, I am finding that its freeing to not always be worried about documenting each event in a photographically perfect way. For instance, this year I only used my iPhone for Christmas. Are the pics perfect? Of course not! But did it document the memories in a much less stressful way? Absolutely. I am generally guilty of driving everyone crazy chasing my kids with the camera, losing my patience when things aren't going well or when the shots don't turn out perfectly so this was a huge shift for me.

I needed this today so badly. I was supposed to get a new lens for Christmas from MIL and she gave us cash instead, which we had to use on our trip. So, I'm not getting the lens I've been wanting for a year, and it is making me feel like my photos from here on out will suck.

I need to get out of that mentality and realize that 20 years from now, my kids aren't going to care about perfect photos with fancy lenses or even how the photo was taken, as long as it documents their life and they can actually get their hands on the photos.

My goal this year is to catch up on printing. And print photos for the house. We can't afford to have our family photos done this year, just like last year, but even the photos I take of the kids should have a place on our walls.

These are fabulous pictures! Love that post Kelly!

Thanks so much for sharing this, Kelly. I'm often caught without my good camera on hand but most times can capture spur of the moment memories with my phone.
