Been dealing with internet difficulties on my computer for the past few days so that lead me to think....

Do you try and fix any technical issues first or do you ask for help?

Who generally does the technical support in your family/house?

Do you try and fix any technical issues first or do you ask for help?
I try and fix it first and foremost as I am the most technically minded person in my entire family, if I can't sort it then I'll ask one of my best friends for technical support or at least talk me through the fix or options I need to take to fix it

Who generally does the technical support in your family/house?

Me, me & me! No, seriously....the less said about the rest of my family and their technical ability the better

It depends entirely on the issue. Most stuff I can handle, but some things I need help for.

My husband is a programmer, so some of the more techy stuff related to the computer he will handle for me. Also things are in his name so if actual technical support is required he's the one you has to call it in. I tried calling our internet provider as it wasn't working once and was told they couldn't help me as I wasn't the account holder.

Mobile phones however, the teenagers and I know more about texting than he does, and the teenagers know more about touch screen devices than we do.

Good luck with your internet difficulties Jennifer.

I try first but quickly get stomped and ask for help.

Who generally does the technical support in your family/house?
My husband.

I usually try to fix things first and then resort to Google or YouTube next, then I'll ask for help if I'm still stuck.

My hubby and I are both pretty good at fixing things, so we usually between the two of us can figure stuff out.

I always try to fix my issues first. It is actually rare that I need to go to David. Many years ago, I did email technical support for a small software company and then eventually became the head of tech support.

We usually each take care of our own issues. (He's a software engineer.) But we both help each out if needed. He usually handles RAM and hard drive upgrades. I usually setup all routers.

My husband uses PC and I use Mac so usually I'm solving problems on my own or seeking help online, but in general he does have more tech knowledge than I have.

Good luck with your internet difficulties Jennifer.

Thanks, I can manage with it at the moment - it basically randomly disconnects just on my PC and I have to wait again to be able to connect, most annoying when downloading but other than that manageable

That's what was happening to me back when I used Backblaze. If I stopped the backup, the disconnects stopped. When I started the backups again, the disconnects started up again. Happened with 2 different computers, one that got fried during a power outage during a tornado warning. The other was the brand new replacement.

@HavaDrPepper thanks for that insight, after MOC I'll investigate more I think

I know it is frustrating to have the disconnects. I was getting so frustrated because it happened consistently. When the computer died, I actually found out that Backblaze had not done a full backup for about a month to 5 weeks.

I'll never forget that time I called tech support for a printer issue, and I was that guy (or that gal):

Tech Support Guy: “Ma'am, is your printer plugged in?”
Me: “Oh gosh. Oops!”

I mostly try to resolve the issue on my own, often by googling potential fixes, because I really don't want to deal with Tech Support Guy!

Do you try and fix any technical issues first or do you ask for help? I will google and see if there is an easy answer to whatever issue I have, but if that doesn't work within about 30 minutes, I will ask my husband and/or my son for help.

Who generally does the technical support in your family/house? My husband Jeff usually (he is a mechanical engineer) and he generally "loves" to try to puzzle out what is going on with any technical issue. If Jeff is not around and my son Josh happens to be (son is 24 and lives across town so not here as often), I will ask my son for help. Josh is an electrical engineer, with lots of computer science knowledge as well. Both Jeff and Josh tend to be the technical support for my parents, who will call with issues about monthly. My daughters- Abby and Mollie- usually can figure technical issues out themselves, but occasionally they will ask Jeff or Josh for help.

Unless it's something very basic, I have my husband deal with it. He's the best tech support around and I'd rather not mess things up inadvertently by trying to do it myself.

If something needs fixed, I absolutely hate waiting for someone to fix it, so I'll always try to fix things on my own. If I don't know how to fix something I'll google it or look up a YouTube video. I once fixed our vehicle that was stuck in 4-wheel drive. After taking it to a mechanic who couldn't figure it out, I checked the fuses to see if that was the problem, and low and behold, it was. Not sure if the mechanic just didn't know what he was doing, but I was quite proud of myself! To this day, my family teases me about that incident and quite a few others where I just figure it out on my own.

My office computer randomly disconnects from the internet or a web page will say it's disconnected but my computer says it's connected. So weird, thankfully it never happens when I've trying to download stuff. And it "reconnects" when I click on the wireless connection clickie ...

Do you try and fix any technical issues first or do you ask for help? I normally fix any technical issues myself.

Who generally does the technical support in your family/house? Me ... at home and at work. It's just me and my father and he doesn't have the knowledge or patience to deal with tech issues. :)

Do you try and fix any technical issues first or do you ask for help?
Yep. I aim to fix them, and am successful about 98% of the time.

Who generally does the technical support in your family/house?
Me. In fact, my mom calls me from half way across the country when she needs tech support, as does my dad. If I can't figure with out, I will default to my brother, at least with computer things.
