Sigh. On January 24 I fell in a parking lot on black ice taking my son to the dr. I broke 3 bones in my ankle/leg and dislocated it to boot. I sat in the parking lot for 15 mins on the wet ice before a good samaritan called 911. The dr office had seen it happen but wouldn't aid me or call because of liability. Jerks

I had surgery next day with plate and five screws. It has been painful and I am bedridden. I had horrible swelling so this tues shayne took me back to surgeon to have cast removed and I am now in a removable boot but no weight bearing for another six wks. Pain is still awful especially in my toes but they tell me that is normal fort type of break.

Now tonight I have spiked a fever of 101.6 even after the acetaminophen they have me on. They are telling us to just watch it and let them know tomorrow afternoon how it is.

Has anyone had a broken ankle surgery? What was your heal time like? Does this sound normal?

Oh, I'm so sorry for all that you've been through! Hoping you feel better soon!

Oh Denise. So sorry! I'm not familiar with that type of injury. But I hope you heal quickly. Feel better!

oh gosh, sounds horrible. I´m so sorry that this happened to you and hope you feel better soon

oh Denise, I can relate to your situation, I've been there before! But unfortunately, I can't tell you good things, cause every person has a different healing velocity...but I know, if you have plate and screws, it's normal to feel lots of pain and at least 2-3 months of recovery!

maybe the fever is a sign of infection?? you should go to the doctor again, to check this out...I took tons of antibiotics to prevent infection, they were afraid of MRSA. But please, don't be nervous, it's just my experience, I know how hard it is to be in bed with pain...
ps - sorry about my English too!!

OMG Denise! I can't believe they just left you out there on the ice! That's despicable!!!

No advice, as I've never broken a bone (yet... give me time), but I hope things turn around soon!!

The dr office had seen it happen but wouldn't aid me or call because of liability. Jerks

are you kidding me??? A doctors office wouldn't help or call an ambulance? OMG.

I'm really sorry you are going through this. I have no experience or knowledge to impart but I'm sending healing thoughts. hugs

I am a therapist and ankle surgeries do take a long time to heal. Being non weight bearing for 6 to 8 weeks is pretty normal. They might do xrays at 4 weeks to check progress. Then usually you go to weightbearing while wearing the boot before you can put weight on it with a regular shoe. So Sorry that happened. Hang in there.

They do rent knee scooters where you rest your knee on it and can scoot around non weight bearing. There are various versions (you need steerable to maneuver better) and places to rent them or buy them. http://www.kneewalkercentral.com/

OUCH! Hope you heal quickly. I can't believe they left you sitting there without helping, that is bad!

Ouch! That sounds horrible and I cannot believe that the Dr.s office didn't come help you even with stupid liability issues. What is wrong with people!?!!?! They should be ashamed of themselves. I'm sorry that you're in pain and I too would think you should force the doctor to check for infection, that is a pretty high fever! I hope you're feeling better soon and that your 6-8 weeks flies by and you're back to the road to normal soon.

I don't have any experience, but I just wanted to say I am sorry, and I cannot believe the people from the doctor's office wouldn't even call 911 for you!!! It's just awful. (((hugs)))

Dang! What a bunch of jerks! If anything, I would write a letter to the offices and let them know just how you feel.

I strained my ankle a few years back and it was not fun being on crutches. Hope you're feeling better soon.

That's horrible! I can't believe that this would even happen!

As far as healing goes I know that every person is different. I see broken bones all the time and see their follow up x-rays as well... (I'm an x-ray tech). Sounds like you had a pretty bad fracture and with the dislocation to boot I'm sure it wasn't a pretty site. Sometimes it can take a while to heal but I would definetly make sure that you follow-up with your Dr. just to make sure there is no infections. good luck!

oh no, I'm so sorry Denise! Hope your recovery goes quickly.

That's awful Denise. I can't believe the drs office would witness it and do nothing. They're so worried about liability? I think they should be more worried about their compassion.

I think a letter to the editor of your local newspaper might get them to think twice next time about not helping out.

Denise~ I'm so sorry to hear about your accident! A dear friend of mine did something very similar years ago. . . falling on icy steps and fractured her ankle much the same as you did. Her recovery was very slow and painful. She continues to have some issues even today, and her accident was more than 4 years ago. My advice would be to take it easy. . . once you are cleared for therapy, that's when you can really get in and work that ankle to try and get back your movement. Let yourself heal. . . scrap away! and know that we are all rooting for you to feel better and make a full recovery~

oh that's horrible! i'm so sorry! i don't know if that's normal healing, but just wanted to wish you speedy healing! Def. don't take a chance w/ fevers though if it persists! I always operate on the paranoid side! :P

OMG. That is so terrible. I hope you get some relief soon. Fevers are scary. I'd be persistent with your doc. Hang in there, sweetie.

Awww, that's an awful thing to go through. I hope you're soon on the mend and feeling better.
