It's that time again!! It's time to pick some new books to read together! I must say that the last batch of books were all great and I enjoyed them all (I'm reading the November book currently). Our little informal book club here at the pad is open to anyone and everyone who likes to read. For this thread we are looking for suggestions for what to read together over the next four months. Everyone can suggest one book for now because when I do the voting poll, I can only have 10 selections in the poll. I will leave this thread open until November 10th or until we get 10 suggestions. Then I will open up a voting poll. Once we vote, I'll start a new thread for each of the four top books... one per month, for the next four months. You can see the complete list of our old picks in our Master Reading List. You can read the books in any order and at any time. If you want to chat about the books, just reply to that thread. Easy peasy! So.... what should we read together next? 1. The Masterpiece by Fiona Davis 2. The Dutch House by Ann Patchett 3. Spellbreaker by Charlie Holmberg (Kindle Prime free book now) 4. The Printed Letter Bookshop by Katherine Reay 5. Cleo McDougal Regrets Nothing by Allison Winn Scotch 6. D: A Tale of Two Worlds by Michel Faber 7. Seven Days of Us by Franchesca Homak 8. 9. 10.
Already?! Well, I am glad this year is near ending. I don't have any suggestions at the moment. My reading has slowed down. The last book I finished was The Singularity by Ray Kurzweil, in September. It was fascinating, and I recommend it, but it's non-fiction, a heavy read, very technical, and understandably not of interest to many people. Since then, I've been extremely slowly reading a book about helping children with anxiety. Again, not a fun book club title. And I've been distracted from reading by my new job. But I look forward to some immersion in some good novels again soon!
I'm going to throw one in again. I just recently finished The Dutch House and it was really good. It was a unique story and interesting characters.
It's added to the list. Thanks! I know! I couldn't believe it was time for another batch of book. And in a way, I can't actually believe this year is almost over. It seemed like it would never end, but then kinda zoomed by in a sea of confusion at the same time. Looks like you have some heavy reading on your plate right now and lately!! I have to be REALLY interested in a subject to do non-fiction reading.
These are just some suggestions based on books in my phone that I want to read... If I had to pick one, I would choose: The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah Others.... True Colors by Kristin Hannah Spellbreaker by Charlie Holmberg (Kindle Prime free book now) The Vine Witch Luann Smith Cold Waters by Debbie Herbert A Lily in the Light by Kristin Fields Trance by Adam Southward And a fluff funny book... Carrots by Colleen Helme
We did the Great Alone in August 2018 and I loved that one too! Great book! So... which one is your second pick?
Ok... how about Spellbreaker then since it's just slightly higher rated and I think it would be fun for a fantasy type book. We haven't done that type in our book club yet I don't think.
Do you have Kindle Unlimited? Or Prime? Many books I read are Kindle Unlimited, or the Kindle Prime Free Books... I pry have more to read that I could give you, lol! I am a crazy reader. Lots of supernatural, suspense, thriller, etc.
Right now I'm reading The Printed Letter Bookshop by Katherine Reay. I think it's a perfect book for these hard & challenging times. For bookshop lovers, it's just right!
Great selections! I've already added a few to my tbr list regardless of whether or not they are picked! Free amazon books - awesome. And Katherine Reay is great!
Cleo McDougal Regrets Nothing by Allison Winn Scotch https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/50532094-cleo-mcdougal-regrets-nothing
i saw this was available thru my local library and assumed it meant it was out everywhere but finding the GoodReads link just now, it says expected pub'n 8 Dec, so i'm not sure whether to suggest it D: A Tale of Two Worlds by Michel Faber https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/53351963-d So as a back-up i'll throw in https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/43521657-the-ten-thousand-doors-of-january or https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/43352954-this-is-how-you-lose-the-time-war
I added your first pick... if it wins we can just put it as the fourth books to give people time to get it. It reminds me of Wicked a little where the animals lose their speech.
