I am way behind in getting this suggestions thread started! It feels like we just did this and it was MONTHS ago! Whoopsie! I'll say this is for August through November, but depending on how long it takes us to get our 10 books for suggestions and then a week for voting, we might make this for Sept - Dec. We have a fun informal book club here at The Lilypad and it's open to anyone and everyone who likes to read! For this thread we are looking for suggestions for what to read together over the next four months. Everyone can suggest one book for now because when I do the voting poll, I can only have 10 selections in the poll. I will leave this thread open until July 14th or until we get 10 suggestions. Then I will open up a voting poll. Once we vote, I'll start a new thread for each of the four top books... one per month, for the next four months starting in August. You can see the complete list of our old picks in our Master Reading List. You can read the books in any order and at any time. If you want to chat about the books, just reply to that thread. Easy peasy! So.... what should we read together next? 1. Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver 2. The Measure by Nikki Erlick 3. The Anniversary by Stephanie Bishop (releases July 18, 2023) 4. The Celebrants by Steven Rowley 5. It Starts With Us by Colleen Hoover 6. Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin 7. When We Meet Again by Kristin Harmel 8. Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand 9. The Girl Who Survived by Lisa Jackson 10. The Only One Left by Riley Sager
I will start with one I added recently, Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver. It was so so so good. There are many tough topics, but it was such a good book!
The Winemakers Wife (Amazing read) https://www.amazon.com/Winemakers-Wife-Kristin-Harmel/dp/1982112298 https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/42201870 or The Measure (On my list soon) https://www.amazon.com/Measure-Novel-Nikki-Erlick/dp/0063204207 https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/58884736
I just started looking, but this intrigued me . . not out yet, but due out soon. Hope it will come to my library. The Anniversary by Stephanie Bishop https://groveatlantic.com/book/the-anniversary/
The Celebrants by Steven Rowley A Big Chill for our times, celebrating decades-long friendships and promises—especially to ourselves. It’s been a minute—or five years—since Jordan Vargas last saw his college friends, and twenty-eight years since their graduation when their adult lives officially began. Now Jordan, Jordy, Naomi, Craig, and Marielle find themselves at the brink of a new decade, with all the responsibilities of adulthood, yet no closer to having their lives figured out. Though not for a lack of trying. Over the years they’ve reunited in Big Sur to honor a decades-old pact to throw each other living “funerals,” celebrations to remind themselves that life is worth living—that their lives mean something, to one another if not to themselves. But this reunion is different. They’re not gathered as they were to bolster Marielle as her marriage crumbled, to lift Naomi after her parents died, or to intervene when Craig pleaded guilty to art fraud. This time, Jordan is sitting on a secret that will upend their pact.
I'm not sure about this one, but I'll add it as a possible. Lone Women by Victor LaValle https://www.goodreads.com/book/show...arch=true&from_srp=true&qid=OIAabERthk&rank=1
One more from the NYT summer beach reads list (my library doesn't seem to have this one though). Pieces of Blue by Holly Goldberg Sloan https://www.goodreads.com/book/show...arch=true&from_srp=true&qid=SURUZSP1Sv&rank=1
Another friend said these were good too! I haven't read these. The Lost Apothocary https://www.amazon.com/Lost-Apothecary-Novel-Sarah-Penner/dp/0778311015 https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/53288434 The Guncle https://www.amazon.com/Guncle-Steven-Rowley/dp/0525542280 https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/54508798
I enjoyed the first one of the series from Lilys POV, but wasn't sure if I wanted to get the other POV for Atlas, so I haven't read it yet. Let me know what you think!
My pick is Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/58784475
Ok, I put the 2nd one of the list for now because it's fun to have a science fiction pick on the list.... trying to let everyone have a chance at one book first, but if we need more books towards the end of this thread being open, I'll add the other one too.
I put your first one on there and I'll add some of the others if needed. I added the Pieces of Blue to my personal to-read list... sounds good and right up my alley!
These both sounds good too... but I'm gonna hold off on adding them to give other a chance... but I can put them on my own to-read list.
