Hello Lilypadders. I was flicking through one of those what day is it today sites, and Straw Hat Day popped up. I've always loved straw hats, a love my youngest has developed too. She asked for a new one for her birthday. Need to take her outgrown one to the charity shop soon.

Do you like straw hats? Or do you prefer a different shade from the sun?

I used to have a straw cowboy hat that I bought in Mexico many years ago. I LOVED that hat. It got smooshed one year when I tried to pack it on a different vacation though and it was never quite the same. I usually use a visor hat these days for a bit of sun shade. I probably should be using a full brimmed hat, but I haven't found one that doesn't make my head too hot while wearing it.

I've had a couple over the years but they aren't something I wear often. The one I have now I actually purchased 11 years ago when I spent the day at WDW so it has a little mouse ears emblem on it. Just the slightest wind would send it flying off my head!

I do have several visors that I wear when I take walks but in the heat of summer I purchased a Coolibar Convertible Explorer Hat to wear during those walks. It is an SPF item of clothing which keeps my scalp from getting sunburned. A cousin's daughter (a dermatologist) has recommended the brand for years and so much of her family's clothing (along with my cousin and his wife) is from Coolibar especially since they live in Florida. Coolibar even has straw hats.

Most hats are too big for me since they are usually one size fits all. The Coolibar hat I have has a chin strap so that helps keep it on my head!

I've never tried a straw hat. Lately I've been carrying an umbrella at soccer games for shade. I've also worn brimmed fabric hats while fishing to stay shaded.

I sooo wish I was a hat person, but I have never been able to really find one that I like on me! I love straw hats and there are some super cute ones!

I look really great in hats; however, as a short-haired girl, there is no taking the hat off later and having "inside hair"...so I don't wear them regularly. I wore a veiled hat for my 1987 wedding...you know the ones! When I worked for a cruise line, we had a big summer party once to celebrate hitting some big milestones and they gave us fun straw hats to wear...I loved it!

I'm not into wearing any hats. But I think I owned a straw hat a couple of decades ago that ended up getting smushed somehow when my kids were young. Now my sunhat is a fabric thing (perhaps polyester?) with a brim all the way around and a chin strap. I haven't used it in years. I think it's in my van, waiting for the next time I feel the need for it. My preferred shade from the sun is an entire building. I mostly do all my outings in the morning and avoid peak sunny time by staying indoors. When I occasionally do go out in the noon-day sun I think of how it's good I'm making Vitamin D.
