When you say "speed" ... how fast is that? I always get stressed when I'm meant to scrap & chat at the same time. And that in a foreign language + with ADHD ...

But it's a good time for me, I might join in.

 

Usually the steps are handed out during the one hour chat and then you have one hour after the chat is over to get your page posted. You definitely don't have to chat along if that is a distraction. When I host speed scraps I have some of both, some people chat along and still get their pages finished and some who just scrap during the chat. The steps are usually posted in a forum thread during the chat too, so you don't even have to go to the chat if you don't want to.
