So .. .How Clean is Your House?

I'm working on organising my house this year. And yes, I said year - I think it will take me that long! Our storage is pretty inadequate and the kids belongings seem to multiply daily so we really need to sort out a system that works for us! We're still renovating the house too, and still have things in boxes from when we moved in.... three years ago..... :blush I am looking forward to opening those boxes and finding some hidden treasures and to also dumping a lot of the stuff and feeling virtuous that I am having a good clearout! :giggle

I hate cleaning so I have a maid service come in every other week. I don't mind keeping things neat and tidy, but the scrubbing I leave to the professionals. Yesterday my house was spotless since the realtor was coming over to take pictures for the listing. Today, not so much. I am not looking forward to keeping everything spotless till this house sells. but you gotta do, what you gotta do!

I've been a pretty messy person my whole life, so living on my own is no fun for me. I have a garage apartment and way to much stuff in it. I wish someone would come through and throw half of it away, i would never notice it or miss it. I try to clean up about once a week but lets be honest sometimes that even gets overlooked. I'm a college student though, so i'm allowed to be messy right?

We are trying to sell our house so it is almost always immaculate. Before the house selling process.... not so much. It's rare that it's THIS clean... so come on over!

I hope you can sell it Jen - I remember reading in one of your layouts that you hate that place.

I have a cleaning service come every other week. It is soooooo worth it! I gave up Starbucks for it, (I still go to Dunkin Donuts...shhhh) but it just makes my life so much easier. I highly recommend looking into it, for anyone. It can actually be pretty affordable. This way I just maintain during the week and then do a little extra on Saturdays.

ugggh, we had our house on the market this summer, it was a big PITB to keep it clean. Glad it sold quickly! I can totally relate to that!

Right now? Not so clean. I always straighten up during the day but by then evening it always looks like a bomb went off in here. I have no idea how it gets like this. And I hate having it dirty when I am watching tv in the evenings so I usually end up running around like a crazy person the last thirty minutes before the kids go to bed cleaning up. I never feel like I am caught up though.

The only time I really feel like the house is clean is when we have company over. So we make sure we invite company fairly regular. Otherwise the place might not ever get a good cleaning. lol

argh...the problem with being a stay at home working mom is that you have to work while keeping the house clean (because just "what" did you do all day?) I hate that attitude! If I was working in an office it wouldn't even be an issue.

So...my house is pretty much a disaster area because I'm trying to train my husband and kids to do their part. It's not going well.

I did purchase a yearly plan from motivatedmoms.com that is helping a little bit. I still end up being the person to check off the most items and some weeks we forget to do any of the weekly chores, but it's still progress.

I think there is a HUGE difference between "dirty" and "messy". Right now my house might be messy because I have 3 little girls that take toy after toy out, but I wouldn't say my house is dirty. The bathrooms are cleaned often, kitchen sink is always empty and pretty clean, and floors are generally pretty clean. I could not live in a dirty house. Mess I can somewhat tolerate, but not dirty. Bleh. It is harder to clean now that I work 3 days, but I just do little bits here and there when I can! While the girls are playing in the tub I clean their bathroom, and rooms, etc... Cleaning is a never ending process!

I agree with your description of dirty/messy, Manda! I think if you have kids, then keeping your house "clean" is very hard. I rarely feel as if the entire house is clean all at the same time because by the time I get one room finished, the kids have pulled out toys, made a mess, etc. I like to think that most of the time my house is very livable and I could get it whipped into shape in about 15 minutes if I knew someone was coming over. I do all the laundry on Mondays, vaccuum on Tuesdays and Fridays, de-clutter every day, and then actually clean on Fridays (bathrooms, sweeping, moping, dusting, etc.). There are deep cleaning things that only when we have company. ;)

We have a cleaning service that comes every two weeks for the heavy duty stuff, but I feel like I am always needing to clean the kitchen and bathrooms despite that. My boys make such a mess - our powder room sink needs a daily wipedown from messy hands.

We had our house on the market for a while and it was such a pain to keep it immaculate. Laundry and the kids' stuff were things I fought with daily to keep the house tidy.

I know right? My husband had the gall to say to me one day "maybe the kids are sick because the house is dirty - how often do you clean - once a YEAR?" This is what he saw when he looked back at me. :eg9
