I have PSE - I use an action that puts the shadow on it's own layer then I tweak using the filter distort wave tip I think I got from here a little while ago. I tweak shadows a lot!

I started off using Mommyish's free shadow styles. I really love that she has a style for almost everything. Then I started using Tracie Stroud's shadow styles as I felt like Mommyish's were a bit too subtle for my taste. I'm now playing with Just Jaimee's shadow styles from the June 2015 Storyteller collection. Because I'm in PSE & I take forever to scrap as it is, I just stick with the styles and almost never tweak them.

I bought shadow kits from a number of designers. I tend to use one of them the most. I will make a shadow on its own layer (PSE) if I need to really customize it further.
